I don't quite understand the 48khz problem. Say I'm hooking the dx1 ii to a TV via optical in. I'm assuming that will probably be a PCM 48khz stream from the TV? And will I start encountering static noise if I watch/listen to content for some time, say after an hour? Are all units affected, or random units? Or only specific firmware?
 
That’s the million dollar question nobody can answer but Topping. Some of us have had big problems with more than one DX1 II unit, others report no problem at all.

Thanks, so for now it looks random, or at least, there's some trigger that's still unknown that may only affect specific systems.

This issue is fixed for every single person that reported having it here, use the latest firmware.

Since the DX1 II's PEQ applies globally, is there a way to make it reduce low frequencies on the 4.4mm output while leaving the RCA output untouched? Otherwise, if I use the PEQ to cut the low frequencies for the main speakers, it will also cut them for the subwoofer, which defeats the purpose. How do you handle this?
 
No, there is no way, unless they change the firmware.

PEQ applies globally to all ANALOG outputs.

But digital out can be made passthrough.

I had the same thought as you earlier. But as @john61ct mentioned, that won't work.
I'm now settling on a TV -> PEQ on DX1 ii -> O-noorus D4 Pro amp with HPF / LPF. I've only just ordered them though, will be a couple weeks before I get them delivered.

It's still early days for dac or amps with PEQ, probably going to take another couple more years before we start having robust and widespread PEQ features. Wiim is still the most robust solution (outside of the mainstream receivers with Dirac stuff).
 
Maybe I'm just ornery, but IMO an amp should be an amp, a DAC a DAC.

All in one like Wiim Ultra is great on the stereo front end, but I want stereo bass management to at least be possible.

The ideal for me would be standalone in-line units that can do user ad-hoc PEQ, from 1x channel then for 2+ channels add full DSP crossovers with phase / delay.

DSPi shows A LOT of promise

miniDSP too "closed" and pricey.
 
I was using the optical input (fed by windows 11 PC) and was getting occasional tics that seems quite random. They weren't happening during song changes etc. In the advanced settings, I changed the opt in to setting D1 from the default D2 (d1 uses PLL and d2 uses ASRC) and the noises appear to have stopped. I don't have any noise problems with the USB input. Everything appears to be working correctly now.
 
I ran into my first instance of popping noises, it was connected to an xDuuo MT-604 via a Balanced to dual XLR via the Line-Out. It seemed to be fairly random and alternates between left and right ear.
Toggling the Topping on and off via the remote have solved it, so the cause could’ve been something else.

Worth noting is that this is basically a launch week unit and it is still on stock firmware, since I never saw a need to update and deal with cascading bugs.

Well I definitely recommend updating the firmware now, it will not only most likely eradicate bugs you describe, but also add extra functionality to the device. The "cascading bugs" you refer to, as far as I can tell, were always there to begin with, or some added post-updates, but as a user since day one, I can safely recommend the latest version now.
 
Attached to a Marantz CD 5001 and the 3 EQ-Presets set for my favourite Headphones the DX1 II is an offer that is hard to beat.
 
Mine arrived today. I've just updated firmware from V15.40.22.40 to V15.92.22.92

First impression:s I like the solid feel of this little unit. Display nice and clear.

Been avoiding it because Linux.
Setting up a udev rule for it wasn’t enough so I just updated it on a Mac instead.

I have a Windows VM for other things. I do the firmware update there.
Everything else works fine under Chromium with the udev rule.

URGENT FIXES:
  • Mac is being prevented from sleeping when DX1 II is plugged in. - after Mac enters sleep, it eventually wakes up again.
  • ‘Import this EQ to another EQ’ changes existing L+R profiles to L/R, when copied from Local PEQ to Cloud PEQ.
  • When clicking out of Auto EQ, then clicking back into Auto EQ, the custom import target is LOST. It’s automatically revering to ‘10dB Tilt KEMAR…’ by default, even though the imported target is still visually highlighted in blue. *UPDATE: headphone response is also not saving:

  • UNDO - not working on Mac in Google Chrome!
  • Saving a profile to Cloud PEQ now jumps to the bottom of the list, instead of the top like previously.
  • In Auto EQ, prevent page scroll when adjusting Q in parametric display by holding ctrl/command and dragging with mouse.
MAJOR GUI IMPROVEMENTS:
  • In PEQ, only change gain/bands values upon CLICK(⌘) + scroll, instead of just scroll - it will prevent unintentional value changes to when scrolling vertically and horizontally.
  • In PEQ, enable horizontal scrolling when hovering over an EQ band ‘tile’ - when a tile is highlighted, it currently prevents horizontal scrolling.
  • In PEQ, add a ‘Duplicate’ button when right-clicking a profile to duplicate EQ profiles.
  • In PEQ, have a “return to” or “A/B” with the originally saved profile - so you can audition changes without losing the original profile.
  • In Auto EQ, replace ‘Restore auto values’ with an A/B instead - allow you to switch back and forth. Currently you lose changes, and can’t revert back to them.
  • In Auto EQ, double-click to add a node (EQ point) in the analyser (if a band is available).
  • In Auto EQ, show compensated view (just like you can in PEQ).
MINOR GUI IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Show the name of EQ profile next to ‘Cloud’ in the dropdown - so you can see which EQ is being played, even from a different page:

  • In Auto EQ, expand the width of the container for the ‘algorithm mode’ popup (it’s unreadable). Go to: ‘Auto EQ > optimisation parameters > solver strategy > algorithm mode’:

  • For both ‘Apply this EQ to’ (in Auto EQ), or ‘Import this EQ to another EQ’ (in PEQ), add the option to type a new name when using ‘Overwrite Target Config’.
LAYOUT:
  • In PEQ, I find the horizontal scroll for editing EQ parameters very unintuitive. Maybe stack those parameters vertically (in rows) so that all parameters are visible at once, in a single page scroll.
  • In PEQ, place the ‘Preview curves’ section next to (side-by-side with) the ‘Optimization result’ section - to see the analyser while tweaking parameters. Maybe make the left column collapsable for more screen real estate.
FEATURE REQUEST:
  • IMPORT profiles (configs) from PEQ into Auto EQ - allows for further tweaking of existing profiles.
QUESTION:
The default ‘Accurate (Differential Evolution)’ algorithm works great, much better than ‘SLSQP’ in my opinion - it sounds much more like speakers.
However, when forcing a shelf, it seems the ‘Accurate’ algorithm always adds too much gain to either end of the spectrum - so I can appreciate having the extra ‘SLSQP’ option available, which is also what autoeq.app uses.

1) My initial question was: is that the main reason ‘SLSQP’ was additionally included, to combat the shelf gain issue?

2) I have a suggestion (which is also listed above) as:
  • “In Auto EQ, double-click to add a node (EQ point) in the analyser (if a band is available).”
...if we could add bands manually in Auto EQ, it would allow us to use the ‘Accurate (Differential Evolution)’ algorithm, while also being able to compensate for balance with a shelf, all without leaving the Auto EQ tab.
