Also, it says you can use a microphone with it, how if i am also using a headphone?

Front 3.5mm is dual and supports mic. Haven't tested.

Either a TRRS gaming headset with a built in microphone or an adaptor like this:

The mic option most likely is CTIA (Apple) wired.

Dammit, it looked too good for the price, thanks for the confirmation.

Shouldn't, but I don't have any expertise in the area. Beats are/were using it for the Beats Studio 2 and probably more - guess it's common on cellphones, old wired buds with mic and bt with complimentary cable....

Connected to the old Marantz SA8001 w its Toslink digital output, listening through iem Salnotes Zero…lo gain…no clicks no buzz…splendid. PS it is an old 30 W Apple iPad charger…all this for the price of a small grocery shopping visit…Wow, wow, wow. Thank you Amir, it gives me great pleasure and a way to reawaken to meaningful service old players…(NTTY, when a test of the Marantz SA-8001 to check if it has a bit perfect digital output?).

Shouldn't, but that would be determined by the design and quality of the headset cable.

The Moondrop MC2 IEM mic cable specifically has an isolated mic line as one of its selling points, there are probably others.

But as Amir for instance mentioned, you can set windows to output for instance 88.2kHz instead. Then it works fine with anything you play, I've used 176,4 kHz without problems
I expect this to be solved fully, certainly within a month, it's certainly worth the price-tag

Some others experience some strange quirks though, not sure how common they are

Win11 + USB at 24/48 into 3.5mm IEMs and now I get some pops that were not happening on other sample rates. I just switched back to 24/96 and it is clean.

Something cooking hopefully, so we can use by far the most common sample rate besides 44.1kHz.

At 96 kHz, I do hear some noise and clicking, but it's noticeably quieter and less frequent than at 48 kHz. When I'm listening to music, I don't always catch it—but with podcasts on YouTube, for instance, I hear it more often through my iems. The annoying part is that I'll rewind the video right away, and sometimes it turns out the noise was actually in the recording itself. I never used to notice that stuff before, and now it's getting on my nerves

The random clicking I reported on the other thread is still happening both at 44.1k and 48k with the latest firmware (15.69.22.69). This only happens a couple of times per hour but it's still annoying and audible both with headphones and IEMs.

Initially my DX1 II was connected to a Thunderbolt dock but this is happening even when connected directly to my MBP.

Anyone having an opinion re MacOS Tahoe 26.X and several reports about external dac issues?

People seem to assosciate the issues with a change in where elements of the drivers are located and how MacOS/kernel handles audi drivers? Haven't seen any solutions, just indications of causes, integrating drivers in the kernel.

Vestri is a dongle - there are many dongles with balanced outputs, among which Vestri is neither special nor of good value. But DX1 II has much more current output for the headphone outputs, while, importantly, has balanced preamp outputs in the back, which are lacking in most other offerings in the similar price range.

400mW vs 467mW not that big of a difference. 4.4mm out on Vestri or any other balanced dongle (assuming ground pin is wired up) can be used as a pre out also..

My point is balanced or power output by itself isn't what sets the DX1 apart. The entire feature set though makes it a compelling product assuming they can get the bugs worked out.

Already in Trouble…

So, I tried to upgrade to the new .69 firmware…all well until, when the message “Firmware upgrade finished successfully” appears…because there is no “exit” button on the screen to click and the DX1 II stays in the dFU mode even after disconnecting from the computer usb cable…

It is not. The window says “firmware upgrade finished successfully”. However and in spite of that, there is no “exit” button, and if I unplug the usb port the DX1 turns off but when turned on again is stuck in dFU mode on the display.
