Topping DX1 II DAC & HP Amp Review (NTTY)

Topping should combine DX1 II and Mini300 into a killer Amp unit with digital inputs similar to SMSL RAW-HA1. It will be pretty much WiiM Amp Pro without the 'smarts'. I think there's a value in that for people who are concerned with the software-based part getting obsolete and/or stop getting updates.
I also think they should work on supporting proper room correction with their own microphones

Lots of new features. You can now select screen brightness and how fast the display turns off. Superb!

Optimized: A signal on any input can wake the device from auto standby and switch to that input
This is interesting. I'm curious if input switching also happens while the device is already awake?

I like that I can have the sample rate on the display rather than volume which I have set to -2.5

Also I have deselected all filters except filter 3 as I have no intention of changing that.

Topping has not been able to fix the pop/crackle since the product was launched which indicate a hardware problem that is unfixable. We must look to other manufacturers for an all-in-one solution.

Hi guys,
I have purchased a discounted HiFiman XS.
And I am wondering if the DX1 II can deliver enough current to it, due to two points:

1- Unlike Hifiman's spec page that sets its impedance at 18ohms. It has been measured by several websites at only 14ohms :
And

2- the topping DX1 II spec page seem to indicate that it is current limited since it its 16ohms power is lower than 32ohms one. And neither Amir nor NTTY have measured its current power limit at 16ohms (or lower for that matter)

@NTTY can I please ask if you would be able to test the power and THD (low gain vs high gain) in 14ohms?

Also guys, any idea how much of a limitation there is with regards to the edition XS (115db max SPL)?

Thank you

Almost 10 years have passed, and Topping continues to manufacture devices that are perfect for measurements but garbage for consumer use.

Hi. That’s what the specifications say. The first column is the SE output, and the second is the balanced output. The SE output should provide higher power. If Topping’s figures are accurate, there is definitely plenty of power.

The spec sheet doesn't align with the measurements from Amir on 33ohms load...

For more power an external AC adapter + Y cable is needed.

The spec sbeet says it accepts 1A/5V. That is basic usb spec. I don't think a dedicated power supply wil help here

USB 3.0 and USB C can provide more on their own. But it won't magically give it tons more power to use

Topping DX1 II connected with bundled USB-A to USB-C cable to USB hub in ASrock PGO32UFS monitor.
32 bit / 44.1 kHz
PEQ Disabled
Unbalanced 3.5mm headphone output with high gain and both channels driven

Everything measured at DX1 II side using WITRN K2.

Idle
4.96 V
0.47 A
2.35 W

50R load, 0 dBFS 1 kHz signal
4.86 V
0.85A
4.11 W

32R load, 0 dBFS 1 kHz signal
4.81 V
1.02 A
4.89 W

16R load, 0 dBFS 1 kHz signal (output is clipping)
4.68 V
1.52 A
7.12 W

Maybe some day I will try to measure absolute worst-case with PEQ, 384 kHz FS, line out and optical enabled + balanced 4.4mm headphone output.
It may also be interesting to use a better power supply than the USB port on the monitor hub and different cables.

16.07.23.07 Firmware Release Note

  • Fixed: Distorted sound occurring during OPT automatic wake-up
  • Fixed: Mute not working when LO/OPT fixed 0 dB output is enabled and only OPT or LO is selected
  • Fixed: Some known issues

By the looks of it, Topping Tune is no longer supporting DX1 II as of this version of the firmware.

Para obtener más potencia se necesita un adaptador de CA externo y un cable en Y.
El uso del cable en Y no proporciona más potencia, pero podría ofrecer mayor estabilidad y claridad de la señal, dependiendo de la calidad de la fuente de alimentación.

No, the Y cable allows the use of an external power source with more power available than, say a standard 5V/1A USB port.
Could you explain how you could get a better stability and clarity of the signal? Which signal—the digital USB signal?
