Strongly suggest adding a Gustard U26 DDC to D900 using IIS.
Then D900 will be in slave mode and using U26's precision OCXO,
And then you'll hear all what you didn't hear in your former years of listening to your favorite titles... :)
You could only post something like that if you hadn't even bothered to look at the internal architecture of the D900. This DAC regenerates the clock signal, meaning an external DDC has no effect.
In fact, using I2S might even significantly increase jitter.
Existing measurement results also speak volumes on this matter.

With SMSL, you can get a high-quality dual DAC featuring a 10 MHz SC-OCXO clock for around €1,500.
Given the current state of technology, additional external DDCs or clocks have long since been absolute nonsense. Anyone who hasn't grasped this is still living in the audiophile Stone Age.

New SMSL D400 MK2 with built-in ±5ppb,10MHz OCxo crystal oscillator for +- $650

Did you really conduct these comparisons blind and with matched levels, or did you know which DAC was playing?
Those DACs are level matched using the same settings, I didn't need to adjust the volume after switching between them. Of course it wasn't a blind test, but I understood the pattern of difference in my system.

Translation: “I didn’t blind-test it, but it was expensive, so obviously it sounded different.”

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting/owning an expensive DAC. Just don't mistake a sighted impression for evidence.
