TOPPING D90 III、TOPPING D50 III

I wonder how it compares to my D90SE

Does it support bidirectional USB audio (loopback) with AES input?

The idea would be something like this:
- Wiim Pro coax out -> Topping AES in
- Mac (running Dirac/DLBC) USB #1 -> Topping USB
- Mac USB #2 -> Lower-tier Topping DAC for 2 active subs
- 4-channel aggregate audio device configured on Mac (for 2.2)

If they add PEQ then that's the main difference

They sound the same then. Although with the features the RME has it can technically sould better.
Never heard RME ADI but own A70 Pro with D70 Pro Octo stack. Honestly it is very musical, detailed and clean. Right now I am listening to a stack and gosh it seriously flaps my ears with DT1990 pro and sounds fantastic, very detailed and impactfull. Had before EF400 and it was shouty (upper midrange) and nowhere as detailed. I am little suprised after all I heard about clinical, cold etc about a brand but this sound is right up my alley.

PEQ involves levels,it's a huge responsibility,you HAVE to know that this stuff is rock solid before you even hook it up to the rest of the gear.
I suppose testing it against worst case scenario will take time,so...

I have a DAC with MQA. So why does it matter when I don't even use it? And although MQA is not for example lossless it should be closer to the original than what any speaker can reproduce
MQA is now proved commercial bullshit. On 3 April 2023, MQA Limited, the company behind MQA had gone into administration. But there was a time when some people wanted to have this function in their DAC. So the major DAC companies designing the conversion circuits introduced the MQA decoding function in their silicon.

Right now MQA is sadly (near) present in every DAC and you paid the licence for a function you will never use.

Some form of PEQ is supposedly coming to D90 III and D50 III
The only programmable DSP D90 III has is the Kalimba core of its BT receiver, the QCC5125 (which is much less powerful than Qudelix 5K's QCC5124, BTW). If they will manage to implement PEQ on it (which I highly doubt), it still will work only with BT input (since the device does not even use the QCC5125 as a USB receiver).

So if you are after a desktop DAC with PEQ, you'd be much better off by getting the RME ADI-2 DAC FS, or if you don't like it for some reason, you'd still be better off with a $60 Fiio BR13 (which is based on the same QCC5125 chip, only that one uses it for both BT and USB inputs, so you will have PEQ at least for the USB input). And since that one has digital output, you can pair it with any external DAC you like for much less money. And what is most important, the BR13 already has PEQ implemented, so no need to wait for a rumored future update.

From Topping

Hi,

Thanks for your continuous attention and support.

It has the resettable fuse inside. Sorry, the exact USB chip model is not disclosed to the public.

Can't the xmos do DSP?

Can't the xmos do DSP?
Theoretically it does include some DSP capabilities, but I'm not aware of any product that would implement PEQ with it. I don't think it's a trivial task, otherwise we should have seen plenty of such products. And as far as I understand the DAC's architecture, S/PDIF inputs bypass the XU316.

Many unknowns. We don't know if these will be available to all the inputs, if there is a dedicated DSP chip inside, if the upgrade is even planned....
But what I know will be interesting is to input the filters with just one knob and one button or with a very basic remote. I hope it has memory for a few filters :D
