Of course there are bad DACs. I have a few USB ones that are awful. I wouldn't say it has a sound though, it's just cheap so the audio is not clean. DACs however are a solved problem if you buy one of the top 40 tested here @ ASR. Unless a non-optimal filter is used..

The loudspeakers have a much worse performance.
Personally, I can't hear the difference between miniDSP 2x4HD & RME ADI-2 & Topping A50 III.
Better headphones can reveal some nuances though.

There’s a huge elephant in the room and it’s the implicit assumption that this entire forum is predicated on. It should be re-named AudioEngineeringReview . . . .
Fully agreed. Hard to make many speakers sound right in the room as well, too often too empty rooms they play into so it's not just bass that is inaccurate.
