Does it really have to use those Nichicon gold capacitors?
Why not? It will possibly pleasure some audiophiles and will not make performance worse for sure.
It's not much expensive as well. If they used C(r)apXon or such, that would be a reason for a lot of jokes, so everything is done right.

Capacitors are still weakest link in the circuit regarding longevity so nothing to do with audiophiles and such. No matter how much you might dislike external power brick it's practically to replace when it dies. All together very nice from Topping.

That is changed with B200 landing in "high power" category now while still maintaining its superb noise and distortion:

The 193W doesn’t make sense to me from the graph; the marker for the Benchmark amp is further to the right but it’s 164W?

EDIT: Amir's response; looks like the cursor is at ~150W @ ~112dB SINAD according to my efforts on WebPlotDigitizer.

Assuming I would want to use this in a classic hifi setup, is there any preamp that can match this performance?

Topping Pre90 or A70 Pro ;)

Edit: you could use the port extension box of the Pre90 with the A70 as well (sold separately). Gets you a very nice Pre and HPA plus some inputs.

A 12V output one for low gain to reach full power (hence the specs) I suppose there must be a few, even if such a voltage is deep into pro gear or older class A preamps, etc (they won't have that THD+N though )

Thank you for a highly anticipated review

This is clearly an awesomely clean piece of kit with decent power. Personally, I have no issue with the external power supplies. Perhaps because this is now playing in the Purifi / NCx500 arena I have some questions.

You said "By now, the amp was fairly warm and it seemed that it was pulling back a bit in available power" ... I wasn't sure what that meant but it sounds like the amp is not happy in heavy use? I'm making assumptions here though.

More interestingly: I'm still trying to get my head around the implications of low gain (benefits being low noise). If I understand this correctly, that low gain of 11.6dB with a nominal speaker impedance of 4Ohm and my system's max input voltage of 4v limits the maximum power output to ~60W. Is that right?

As a stunningly low noise/distortion amp with speakers that are not unusually difficult, this seems great. It's not the perfect amp for all uses, but that's probably not what it's for. Impressive offering from Topping.

It needs around 7.5V @4ohm for 200W, the Topping Pre90 can go to 8V (I didn’t do the math for 8ohm).

But yeah, that’s what the high gain mode is for, which for real world use has no hindrance.

maybe you can answer my question that I asked here?

Not switching, no high frequency penalty, audible noise and distortion a vague memory, very usable power output... I wonder what the subjectivist crowd will invent to avoid praising this amp... They'll really have to get creative this time.
It made the music sound cold, dead and lifeless. On my Zanden amp music came to life, made me smile, made me cry, made me think of enjoyable times in a not so distant past. But with this plastic-like Topping thing ... my gaze just wandered to the window, hoping to soon feel like I've subjected myself to more than enough of this emotionless attempt at conveying real music. The experience felt almost as excruciatingly painful as listening to one of those damned silver discs from days of yore (CD).

WoW!

Waiting for these people to make a Prepro PrePro or AVR complete with Full Range DRC, AUdyssey, Dirac or better and all the codecs and features that have come to AVRs (Spotify or Roon connect, Atmos, etc)..

Peace.
