Here is the video review of Topping B200 monoblock audio amplifier:

Had a target of getting it done in 5 minutes but instead, it took 13 minutes. Play it at 2X the rate and it will come close to my target. :D

Nice video. Thanks!

You mention that you'd like a few hundred watts for your Revel Salon 2s, does this mean that you are eagerly awaiting a Topping B400 or will you try hooking up the B200?

A tiny point, but... At about 11:20 you said 20 Ohms when I think you meant 2 Ohms. Not sure if it might be possible to maybe add a caption that pops up at that moment? Not to worry as most people will probably know what you meant anyway.

Thanks again!

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Love it.

I plan on testing with them using b200. Don't need an amplifier there but for testing.

Question regarding the B200 gain settings:

I am using the Pre90 and a pair of B200s to power my Klipsch La Scala AL5s (current model) -- Balance XLR connection. Im using the high gain setting as the low gain requires me to tuen the volume up on the Pre90 to well over -20db to get reasonable volume in my room. It seems like I would expect a lot more output into a speaker with a sensitivity of 103dB. Is there something I am missing or is it just fine to push the Pre90 into that territory?

Thanks,
Steve

The sensitivity numbers for speakers is fiction. For one, sensitivity is not one number. Klipsch is notorious for picking sensitivity number wherever it is max, which is usually in treble.

Thanks for the reply Amir.
Any issues using the Pre90 in the -15 t0 -25 range with the B200s in low gain mode? Or should I stick to high gain?

My guess is that with the Pre90 you would be ideally placed to take advantage of the low gain mode.

Also -- I really enjoy the videos @amirm ... pretty sure I've watched each one over the past two years.

Thank you!

Thanks for this report.

I have a beginner question.

When we see the measured performance of this amplifier, what can justify to spend 10 to 100 of thousand USD on well known brands? What do we get more from a 50K USD Monoblock?

In my case, much more power. My monoblock amplifiers produce 800 watts per channel. But no way can I justify their $25,000 cost. They of course came out 15+ years ago. Today, i would by a Hypex/Purifi amplifier if I wanted lots of power. I would buy Topping if my needs were more modest. And if I wanted to save money, one of many chip based budget amplifiers.

I should add that there are many expensive amplifiers that don't produce more power, but do inject tons of distortion and noise. Yet costs a lot more. These amps, other than visual appeal, provide no sonic value.

I understand that many people have to prove that they have money to throw away, but now with these amplifiers (B100 - B200) what is the point of amplifiers like Dan D'Agostino and similar brands?

Read this great statement the other day:

"The price is the product."

You simply cannot show off with cost optimised boxes.

"The price is the product!"
I totally disagree. Hermes bags, which cost 30,000 euros, are assembled (material and labor all included) for 35 - 40 euros!!! Absurdity!

But that's another topic.

Do you have particular brands in mind when you think of Hypex or Purifi amps?
