Thank you for the replies, it's good to know as I read of so many people that were having problems, I think more than any other device...

Is it possible to use the RCA and XLR output at the same time?

I am thinking here of the application of a subwoofer, i.e. one output (XLR) to the power amplifier and the other output (RCA) to the subwoofer.

I am currently having an issue where my topping a70 pro is not being detected by my computer. The firmware is on version 2.05 and my pc drivers are completely updated. The application is being detected as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" driver error, but all my drivers are up to date. I also have updated the firmware on my a70 pro, even though it was already on ver. 2.05, just to see if it would do anything. Lastly, it enters DFU mode whenever I plug in my usb c cable. This happens whether or not I am holding down the volume button.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to help me or how I could solve this?

I forgot to mention that whenever I turn on the a70 pro, it goes straight to the DFU screen. The only time it does not do this is when I turn it on from the power switch WITHOUT the usb c plug plugged in. If it is ever plugged in and I turn it on, it will always bring me to the dfu screen.

What exactly do you want to do with the A70 Pro on your computer?

I just want to use it for better audio control when listening to music
???
The A70 Pro is a pure headphone amplifier, the USB connection is only for firmware updates.
According to your description, the A70 Pro works exactly as it should.

I see, then I understood the A70 Pro wrong. But, with that said, how would I connect it to my computer or other devices? This is my first major amplifier as the previous ones were just able to connect and play. It may be a dumb question, but does the A70 Pro NEED the D70 Pro to function. When I had looked it up before, it had said it did not and could function without it.

You can connect it to the analog audio output of your computer or to an external DAC.
This can be any DAC, preferably symmetrical, but it doesn't have to be.
On ASR you can find many test reports on current DACs.

Ah, I see. I do plan on buying the D70 Pro in about a month or so, so for now, I'll connect it to the analog audio ports on my computer. Thank you for your help, it is very much appreciated.

I might just do that. After hearing about the D30 lll from you, in retrospect it would have been better for me to get the A30 lll as well as the D30 lll, to save money overall. But, considering I plan on investing into more headphones and iems, getting the D30 lll would be a good idea. Thank you for the suggestion.

hi all
Is it ok to use a70 pro preamp xlr out to my hifi amp?

its a cambridge cxa 80.
cxa80 xlr in voltage is 4 volt

my setup is adi 2 dac fs to a70 pro xlr out to cxa.
is this safe?
the manual talks about connecting to speakers but not hifi amp.
amirms test shows xlr out 4v at -6 volume.

so -6 on volume of a70 pro will give me 4v out to cxa?

iam not brill at this help required
thanx

Yes you can connect the A70Pro's XLR Line out to an external Amp.

As the A70Pro is an analog Preamp, its output voltage depends on the input voltage.

That means that you cannot set it to -6dB and assume that it'll output 4V.

It's highly recommended to purchase a basic $15 multimeter, as this will allow you to measure output voltages and Amp/Preamp gains yourself, in-situ.

I'm looking to replace my THX 789, and this thing really seems to fit the bill. Digital volume control (the pot on my 789 wore out badly), tons of power (I have a set of HE6se's in my collection), screen with a VU meter (I'm a sucker for things like that), etc. The only problem is all of these reports about it failing, or rather, headphone damage. Failure is annoying, but damaging other gear is unacceptable.

I'm thinking about getting one, hooking it up to a pair of headphones I don't mind losing, and letting it run for like two weeks straight, really hit it with a lot of service time to see if I can get a fault to show up before I swap it into my main gear stack. Is there any consensus on what could trigger this? Any specific songs, any combo of inputs and outputs? I'm not going to use this as a preamp at all, so ignore that bit. My primary usecase is balanced in/balanced out to headphones.

Did they ever nail down a specific cause and address it? I've seen some posts that it could be the potting compound used, which to me means firmware updates are unlikely to make a difference. Has that been corrected or do you still roll the dice on buying one of these?

Where did you get the information that the A70 Pro damaged or destroyed headphones?

The volume control is relay-based via resistors, not digital. The signal in the A70 Pro is processed purely analogue.

Unfortunately, I have no new information about the modules. Perhaps Topping has solved the problems or left out the potting compound, as in the DX9, for example.

Earlier in this thread, in fact. Page 32 I think? There's a posted video that shows the popping and a follow up post from the same user mentioned that the driver wasn't the same afterward. There's a few other anecdotal reports that I had but I've sadly lost them amongst the hundreds of tabs I had open while researching into this.

Ahh, my bad about the volume control, I used the wrong terminology. I really meant "not potentiometer based" as that's the current issue I have with my 789.

And hmm, well, I may just bite the bullet and give it a shot. Here's a question for you, as you seem to be the most knowledgeable about why these things might be failing: is there any legitimacy in assuming that, once a certain threshold is crossed, that one could rule out their particular unit as being affected by the potting compound issue? If I ran this thing for 500 or 1000 hours, and it didn't show signs of an error, could I reasonably assume this particular error won't crop up on my unit? (The number is obviously arbitrary and only an example, I am aware that we don't have a specific figure to shoot for here.)

I'm mostly just concerned about it doing something abnormal to my headphones, or my hearing for that matter.
