Topping’s new amplifier - Mini300

Seems like extremely good performance for the price, looking forward to some proper measurements!

Looks pretty good. I'd been holding out for topping to update their small amps because I didn't like the plexiglass look. If they update the B100s in this style, I'd be down.
They need a B400 (400 watts at 2ohms)

Looks similar to what they already had... What is the point?

Topping already has excellent R&D to develop top measuring discrete DAC and discrete opamp stages. I want to see them using their talents to develop top measuring discrete class D amp topology and feedback loop, no chip amps, and bring some legitimate competition to Purifi, Hypex and ICEpower on high power amplifiers.
If I remember well, @JohnYang1997 told some years ago that they tried and failed. Designing a top notch class D is not an issue of electrical engineering, it's a question of mathematical modelisation.

As a non-pro and enthusiast without any knowledge about the science and mesurements about audio gear, I have a question.

Retiring after a long life in music and small studio production, I set up a little system right here in my livingroom, just to have good sound and be able to occationally do some mixing for others, and also play around with my old multitrack recordings and listen to my vinyl collection.

First thing I did was to get a simple DAC. I tried a Olasonic, a Topping, and landed on another Topping; the E30 II - it was a revelation. It blew away all the consumer audio interfaces I had heard in the last few decades - Focusrite, Apogee, Mbox, Audient etc. Great.

I love that DAC, and I love my passive Dynaudio BM6'es. I drive them with a Sony FA30ES receiver. Most of my audio comes from my mac thru the E30 II, and is amplified by the Sony. The only other job it does is receiving my 0.7mv MC pickup signal in its phono/RIAA stage.

I was alway used to having a power amp without any preamp, like Electrocompaniet and others.

I know the power stage of a system will not be as critical to SQ as other stages, but do you think this Topping amp would be a good idea for me? Would it drive the Dynaudios well? I'm thinking, 1990's tech vs this year's tech. I never play very loud.

I'd also love to get rid of this 20 punds heat generator Sony. I could look into a good standalone RIAA and preamp box to go with my wonderful Ortofon MC x10.

Specs seems to be identical to the ones of a PA 5 II. I am wondering if there are any pros/cons to it?
Exactly my thoughts - just a re-branding of the PA5.

it will probably be fine but i'd wait to see some measurements first especially about load dependance. on paper its powerful enough tho

If the spec sheet is accurate and this really is Class D, then despite similarities it should be a completely different amplifier under the hood.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this were a TI TPA3251.

I got rid of Class A amps for the weight (ATI) and was surprised at how much sound was also improved (Buckeye). I think if you don't need loud, these will probably be a big improvement.

Thanks to you and also Paco de Lucia for the clear and concise replies.

(How do you multi-quote in this forum?)

"Is it possible that the mini300 is the PA5II Plus?"
Said by the boss of Topping just now in a QQ group(a Chinese social media app).

He is asking the question than answering it?

I guess I got it wrong then.
So basically he is denying, isn’t he?
I said in group: I don't understand mini300 looks live Pa5Ⅱ and measures like Pa5Ⅱ
And then he said "Is it possible that the mini300 is the PA5II Plus?"
I think he means it.

My guess when reading this "Topping Mini300: Protection and reliabilityDesigned for long-term use, the Mini300 incorporates several protection circuits against overheating and overcurrent, ensuring stable operation over time, even during prolonged listening at high volumes."

To erase the fiasco surrounding the PA5's problems, particularly the overheating of op-amps, Topping completely revamped its marketing.

Makes perfect sense, and it looks more modern with better WAF
I'd buy one if I already didn't have TP RA3
There's really one thing missing from the new one, and that's a remote. It's powerful enough for most speakers and will be underutilized on the desktop
Obviously it's possible to also control the volume through the DAC instead..
