Top-10 Sub comparison (SVS vs Monolith)

Never heard of a PB23 plus/2. PB2? I'd still prefer two idential subs myself....
Heres the Review of my old SVS Sub which still competes with a PB13 Ultra!

Ah, so a PB12 plus2, thanks for the clarification (sort of)

The spreadsheet is shown as Peak SPL rather than RMS for consistent comparison which is responsible for the 3dB increase from RMS measurements. There is nothing wrong with this as one of the two needed to be picked.
Okay well the +3dB increase wasn't applied evenly as some were +5dB if I remember correctly. After seeing that and the Monolith Subs all being wrong I cant trust that source as it's outdated at least as far back as 7/26/23. Which was when Audioholics corrected all of their Monolith subs. I imagine if he's neglected those readings that more than likely others are incorrect. Which I why I said to use the Trust but Verify method. I hope Sweetchaos does update his spreadsheet as its widely referenced.

Are these the only 2 brands you're considering, for your top 10?

I personally got a Monolith THX 16 last fall on Black Friday Sale (so it was less than the current/normal price of the THX 13), and it's a massive beast at 170lbs. Definitely moves a lot of air, and sounds great with music and movies. The HSU VTF-TN1 was second on my list. I sort of wish I had gone for the THX 13 or the VTF-TN1 (and possibly a second HSU), with how big the THX 16 is.

Rythmik also makes great and great-sounding servo subs. I upgraded to the THX 16 from a Rythmik F12SE sealed sub. I considered one of their bigger models for the upgrade, but the Monolith sale price was too good. You might want to look at their 15/18 inch models. Same for Power Sound Audio, and they have a 15/18/21 inch models that would be within your budget range as well.

At this point im only looking at SVS for my next Sub(s). Because I think the new SVS Pinnacle towers & Center will be my next LCR and it would be nice to have a matching set for once. And if you buy 5 or more items you get a 5% discount. Plus the SVS Subs bass management is top notch. And considering that Dirac ART most likely drops for mid-priced receivers this April im gonna use it to EQ an amazing sounding room with incredible Bass. Really excited for this fall when i purchase everything hopefully.

I put together a list comparing SVS & Monolith subwoofers and figured i'd share it for discussion purposes.

Im also waiting for SPL Measurements to be tested on the new SVS SB17/PB17. As i'm in the market for a new Sub and am looking at those models closely once we see results. If anyone has measurements for those we can add them to the list.
Enjoy & discuss...

Measurements done by Audioholics using CEA2010 standards. Frequencies shown: (16/20/25/31.5/40/50/63/80Hz)

Where are you getting your svs 16ultra numbers? I checked audioholics numbers and they don't seem to match what you posted.

You should add the weights to the chart. Some folks might decide by which one they can move
Great point.
I have the 12" Monolith which is far from the biggest here, but it's an absolute pain to lug around. 50kg, sticky feet and nowhere to grab onto. They should put handles on these things.

Their EXACTLY the same...the question is what is your Source? Because mine come directly from the guys that measured them. Don't trust spreadsheets. Maybe your confusing the Sealed SB16 vs the Ported PB16 Measurements...

Tonewinner puts handles on their Subs. According to Spec of Tech on youtube they beat SVS by his measurements. Only problem is that his are in-room measurements not done by and CEA Standards. So they cant be verified. I dont think hes lying, but if i introduced them here the so-called "Audiophiles" crowd would freak out! Personally I think Tonewinner is louder but doesnt have the great tech that SVS has. Their like a more mature Monolith.

That's why if I ever replace my old SB-1000, I'll go for a Kali WS-12 -- not pretty, but pretty luggable.

Yup. I have mine on a little rug I used to slide it into the living room. That rug now has a new purpose.
