Tom Danley’s new ‘Hyperion’

I believe the ‘signature’ range was a stab primarily at the domestic market, the early renderings ( the HRe was initially called the Hyperion) looked quite smart, but… Danley is primarily live sound aren’t they.

I was at Danley Sound Labs the week that the world shut down, was literally flying back as the airports were emptying out.

The impression I got, was that they pivoted towards some projects that had been on the back-burner, because Covid gave everyone a 'breather' where they could explore some idea/projects that wouldn't normally be possible otherwise.

Anyone with the means should get these while you can, because it's hard to envision a scenario where Tom has two years to focus on something like this.

I work in tech IRL, and right now everyone is canceling initiatives and projects that were cooked up during the pandemic, projects which would have only happened due to the unique circumstances of the time. Feels like right now, all the big companies are hunkering down and focusing on profit centers.

One last thing - I've been selling AV gear all my life (not for a job, I just like buying new gear) and I've ALWAYS got the best return on investment on items that are hard to find. The Summas were a great example of this. When I bought them, I thought it was a "splurge" and I accepted the fact that I might not be able to sell them EVER, because Earl's customers were definitely more interested in the low end of his product line. I didn't buy Earl's top speaker because I wanted his best speaker, I bought his best speaker because nobody else was and there was a waiting list months long for the affordable stuff.

In the end, it worked out really well, because people started reaching out to buy them off me, as soon as Early stopped accepting orders. I think that his customers figured they could buy a set whenever they wanted, and once that changed, all of the existing ones became collectible.

Hi, I'm new to this thread. Is this FR measurement done with applying EQ to the Hyperion?
Just EQ for the rooms standing wave.

Well the Danley signature range is now available, I don’t have the RRPs ( I have asked) but they are not going to be cheap, at least £60k for the HRE’s I would estimate, you can choose the colour but the finish is ‘polyurea’ which I imagine is the studio splatter finish so not your Lamo metallic orange gloss.
These aren’t going to be an easy sell.

Obviously, one would want to call up Danley to confirm, but I'm pretty sure that one could have their speakers made to look however they preferred. As I understand it, part of the reason they have so many different items in their catalog is because customers asked them for specific configurations. For instance, they made a Jericho Horn (I forget which model) and a customer asked for a something taller, so they accommodated that request.

The Danley home speakers would look sharp with a layout like the Jubillee I think. Makes a statement, but replace that prosound paint with a real wood finish.

My understanding is that all the high quality active, powered speakers have the EQ and phase optimized by the built in DSP.
Phase is not a given, while EQ is standard, even in reputable brands.

By the way, the EASE data has phase for every angle.

Sorry it is a bit gloomy here, just had to implement a couple of filters as bass is adequate!

Just a quick in room 1/6th smoothing there is no acoustic treatment in this room, 39.5Hz I brought down a bit plenty of output at 20Hz.

Hi Keith, couple of questions:

1. is this measured with the mic 1m away?
2. the graph is a bit blurry, what is the dB scale on the vertical axis of your graph? 5dB, or 10dB scale increment?

Long time ago, but almost certainly from the MLP, I use a 60dB vertical scale and 5dB increments.
They are awesome, ugly but awesome, there is no U.K. distribution whatsoever so will never sell a pair.
Which is a pity.

Danley Distribution are the UK distributors, great guys! and have a pair of HRE, don’t think they currently have ILE3 (a demo pair on their way to Australia which isn't much help for you).

Iain is a great guy, I would very much like a pair here.
Keith

Spoke briefly with Iain yesterday, demo set of HRE’s sold and no plans to stock any more, pity.
Danley really should have set up a ‘domestic’ distributor for these if they were at all serious about selling them.

I had a brief interaction with Tom and he said that parts shortages affected the launch severely, causing a few products to be redesigned several times.
