Yes. I know this is in my signature. But, I'm currently preoccupied with the Aztec Camera EP, Backwards and Forwards, in particular the cover version of Jump contained on it.

So, I'm asking for some direction on how to get it into an mp3 file. I haven't yet purchased a copy of Backwards and Forwards for the second time in my life. That's the second thing I'll do in this pursuit. The first is buying JRiver or something like it. Outside of that I'll be buying a turntable. Like WTF, me of all people! Recommendations will be greatfully entertained. Then, maybe I'll need an ADC if nobody can recommend a TT that doesn't already have one. And, do I need anything else to transfer vinyl to mp3 (flac)?

Thanks in advance of course!

So you wish to buy a turntable to convert your vinyl copy of Aztec Camera - Backwards & Forwards to an mp3 file?

May I ask why?

I don't anticipate this will be the only time I convert vinyl to flac. I also think a serviceable TT may be available at a relatively low price (<$200 or so including ADC). And, have you heard the EP?

I also post because I anticipate this thread may become a resource for converting vinyl to flac and that the thread will morph to a conversation on out of print music available only on vinyl.

Oh, I want a portable media copy of the record.

If I was in the market for a turntable I'd be looking at the Audio Technica AT-120USB. It doesn't seem too cheap or too expensive (although the price has gone up), it comes ready-to-play with a cartridge and built-in preamp, and it's direct drive so there are no belts or pulleys to wear out. Plus, it's got USB for digitizing. (My 40-year old direct-drive Technics which I use to occasionally digitize a record is still working fine.)

Then, maybe I'll need an ADC
If you have a desktop/tower computer you can plug a line-level signal into line-in (usually blue). Most laptops only have mono-mic-in and headphone out so you need an audio interface. The BehringerUCA202, or UCS222, or UFO202 which has a phono preamp are popular and inexpensive. But they don't have a recording volume control and that's a problem if you have a hot signal and clip the ADC. I have an ART USB Phono Plus. (It got a "not recommended" rating by Amir :( ) Or there are lots of higher-end audio interfaces with switchable mic/line inputs. Don't get a "regular little USB soundcard" because they are like laptops with only mic-in and headphone out.

And in case you don't know, Audacity is a free open source audio editor than can record. Your choice of recording software won't affect recording quality (assuming no problems). It just has to capture the digital audio stream and send it to the hard drive.

THANKS, I thought this music was available only on out of print vinyl!
CD purchased!

I would just chime in and say depending on the motherboard, the line in might have terrible quality. All the truly bad I/O I've heard in my life was built into computers. As with any audio gear there's no call to spend money just because, but I'd also want to use gear that's been tested if I could.

Several years ago I'd spent days... Well, probably partial days... working on "cleaning up" a digitized scratchy digitized record. Then I found and ordered the out-of-print CD. I was so happy to get a clean copy that I didn't mind that I'd wasted so much time! And I didn't have to pay a "collector price" or anything.

Sometimes it can be noisy... Usually line-in is pretty good and better than vinyl.

On the other hand, the mic input on a soundcard or laptop is usually poor quality (noisy) and since it's incompatible with stage/studio mics (balanced XLR connections and studio condensers that require 48V phantom power), the mic input is generally worthless for "quality recording".

Time spent on threads about vinyl, always wasted. I'm doing it now! :D

But to the OP's actual problem.... if you desire mp3s of this EP, you can literally buy and download it in that format from Amazon Music for $8 bucks:

did you even click your own link? there's only 2 of the 5 songs OP is after.

It's called a rounding error. And sample is really not indicative.

Answer, NO it's not, it is or can be just as enjoyable as any other source:D

https://open.spotify.com/search/aztec camera jump At least 4 versions of that song available and then all you need to do is record it with Audacity using your soundcard output as recording source.
I could make lots of suggestions for inexpensive kit to do the same thing direct from vinyl but unless you want to do it on a regular basis it's really not worth the hassle of going down that particular rabbit hole!
