As @solderdude posted earlier, we have another (now closed) thread regarding timbre. After almost 1000 posts, no consensus could be reached with regard to its definition. Even if you deny most DACs are transparent and measurements insufficient, the burden becomes to show how audible differences might be for a significant sample of listeners. Lacking a disciplined approach to demonstrate any audible difference, does not matter if you call it timbre or some other vague term, all that remains is supposition. Supposition without any supporting science is simply audiophile gossip. One major ASR goal is to move the discussion beyond the usual gossip.
Am locking this thread as the OP has not shown any progress toward a scientific investigation. Am willing to re-open if he shows some substantial intent to apply science to the proposed task.
