Been using Tidal for a couple of months now with my setup, but never actually tried their Dolby-Atmos enabled content.. turns out there's a lot! A few weeks ago, I acquired a used Yamaha Aventage RX-A2070 Dolby-Atmos 9.2 AVR, but never bothered to try out Tidal's Atmos library... till last night =) The Tidal-integration on Yamaha's MusicCast app doesn't appear to support playback of Atmos-enabled songs, only sees them as 2-channel PCM. However, when I use the Tidal app & playback Atmos tracks using Chromecast (Google-TV dongle), it shows on the AVR's UI that the audio signal/source is indeed in full Dolby Atmos/DD+ format:
Have to say, it's really awesome... these Atmos tracks sound quite immersive/enveloping & 3-dimensional! I'll have to disagree with listeners who claim it's just "gimmicky"... I can't wait to try out more tracks later tonight, I want to do some Atmos vs Stereo comparisons =)
