Edit: don't know why you get a 403 forbidden from this link. Copy and paste into your browser seems to work.
Looks like Darko doesn't like ASR :) When the http request has "Referer" header set to "https://www.audiosciencereview.com", then the response is "403 Forbidden":

Working my my pixel 5 and cheap Amazon DAC.

Got 2.4.3 yesterday
Could you clarify the app version? Is it 2.43.0?
Could you post a link to the DAC? Also are you using a USB cable to connect it? I am starting to think my dragontail OTG cable is preventing my setup from working since your pixel5 works.

could that not be true?
There is no reason to think it is, and those who want to challenge the scientific consensus have to produce a lot more than ‘well you can’t prove he can’t hear a difference’. Of course there are ways of confirming beyond doubt what he can and can’t hear, but he is on the record as being committed to avoiding them. It turns out that this rouse is all it takes to convince 000’s of otherwise rational people to believe that Darko knows something that Dr Floyd O’Toole doesn’t.

According to this article there appears to be a new version of the Tidal app that enables bit-perfect playback to a USB DAC just like UAPP. I have not yet been able to confirm this using on my Pixel 3 with my Dragonfly Red and Dragontail USB dongle. I am running version 2.43.0 downloaded from the Android store in the US. If anyone else has seen this work for them please post up your device, app version number and USB DAC model.

Known combinations that report “Allow Tidal to access <USB DAC name>?” :
Tidal App version: 2.43.0
USB DAC: Meizu HiFi DAC,
Phone: OnePlus 7Pro, pixel 5

What doesn't seem to work yet:
Tidal App version: 2.43.0
Phone: Pixel3
USB DAC: Dragonfly Red with Dragontail OTG cable (Note, this works with UAPP and Onkyo HF player apps)

Bad news- for you- Pixel 3 (android 12 Beta) with both an E1DA 9038D and a Meizu Hifi pro with app 2.4.3 brings up the control message. So I think its your Dragonfly at fault.

It might be his cable/phone rather than the Dragonfly, as in the article:

"Tidal’s bit-perfect playback also works with the LG V40 and the THX Onyx but – oddly – not the AudioQuest DragonFly Cobalt. Tidal doesn’t even pop-up to ask if we want to allow it access to the Cobalt. Perhaps the interceding DragonTail USB-C to USB-A adapter causes the Tidal app not to properly identify the Cobalt?

Or perhaps this wrinkle is specific to the LG V40 because cutting over to an Essential PH-1 smartphone (RIP), we do get asked if we want to allow Tidal access to the DragonFly DAC and we do see its LED glow purple when we punch in a track from Tidal’s Masters. Go figure. "

He's using a pixel 3 though, per the OP?

The actual device configuration combination that works/fails can vary as the article was pointing out, as I was too. :)
My point being, it isn't the phone. I have the same phone he does and it works. And you would presumably use the dragonfly with its accompanying "tail" so regardless of which of those it is, its an audioquest problem, not a phone problem.
Edit, of course like you say, it may be the phone interacting with the dac and the app but the pixel 3 allows the tidal app to control a dac.

Happy to confirm for Sony Xperia 5 II with Zorloo Ztella.
MQA files trigger the magenta led light so it seems to really utilising the USB DAC.

Thanks! added. What cable are you using with your E1DA to connect it to the Pixel3?

I first want to sort out if it's the dragontail cable or the DAC. It's cheaper I think to swap the cable but would like to pick a cable that is known to be successful. I am operating under the impression it still needs to be an OTG cable and not just a regular USB-C to female USB-A.

Also what's interesting is my current combination DOES work with Android Audio Player Pro and with Oknyo HF player. I get the similar pop up message to allow control of the dragonfly. So, not sure if the Tidal app NOT working with my combo is a bug or a feature at this stage...:)

I personally think we should watch the videos and click on the articles that are useful to us and give those a like, and then give a thumbs down to the videos and articles that are not useful to us. That way we give him feedback as a community on which of his work we want to see more of and find useful and which of his work we don't find useful.

There are Thumbs up/down buttons and he asks us to use them. So we should use them.
