I have left Tidal but still have some days left in my old plan and I’m in Australia. So I dropped the streaming quality from the new HiFi Plus to HiFi and then examined some MQA tracks.

But the track plays as a non-MQA track, cyan colouring used. And it is 44.1/16 through to the DAC.
I had hoped to try and use UPP to examine the tracks, unfortunately it hasn’t been updated to allow the selection of the new HiFi level.
At a guess they could either send the MQA encoded FLAC data minus MQA flagging or do some kind of limited MQA unfolding to 44.1/16 at the server end for each stream. Of course they could do the unfold once and store the extra ‘HiFi’ level file for later streaming but we’ll probably never know.
