used stormaudio new firmware sub filters , its not a big deal its lot more to lows below 20Hz our ears'hearing/mind shouldn't requester the lows below 20Hz as audible , bit more , more to it , but managed to smooth out few peaky humps in the lower lows JBL 4645/C , i may see if i can get 5Hz with little easy ? 4Hz maybe possible but maybe with some difficulty ?

laserdisc has been on the highest buying for several months now , 4k worthless fake lossless audio near field mixes have ended up in the cat litter i wonder why ? maybe its the soundmixer messing with the dynamic range for cheap rated home mixes for cheap soundbars

laserdisc be it Dolby Stereo 4.2.4 or AC-3 5.1 sound way better

so much of course detail when the score is on is own

duran , duran , john barry what a cool bond theme

Dolby Stereo when decoded and correctly played back with surround arrays gets me that cinematic flashback , LCR wow , don't need atmos near field upmixes

clear vocals on end credits

batman , surprisingly decent picture laserdisc transfer and Dolby Stereo 4.2.4 matrix to match with with lucasfilm ltd THX sound system via the JBL cinema motion picture system

first saw the living daylights at odeon screen 2 original large screen before year later split into five screens ruined the cinema going , but the Dolby Stereo in screen 2 was okay ,
its better on my THX JBL as i can feel the low bass action , i just merely heard it at screen 2 but had impressive surround array with some speakers in the ceiling , cinema closed years ago now and lays derelict expect for the pigeons

i like the editing , score mixing 2:08 when bond levers the rear door and feel it in the bass john barry music as a bass jolt ! the hand grenade under the fuel truck explosion , wow in THX !

laserdisc picture transfer a bit rough , Dolby Stereo is same as heard at the odeon screen 1 , on cinerama curved screen with overhead surround , saw 2nd time in the divided downstars screens , screen 6 part of the original screen 2 in Dolby Stereo SR , screen LCR sounded narrow screen size really looked like vhs letterbox due to screen size and walls around the auditorium narrowed projection width , the original speakers used for the surrounds a three-way i believe they where okay , bass from LCR a bit weak

here in Dolby Stereo THX its all about feeling the soundtrack
phone camera isn't matched to projector frequency , where sony handycam i can match frame rate so no roll-colour-bars are visible

a bit of 4k , superman the movie 1978 theatrical mix stereo surrounds , wow a bit of smoke machine effect for the projection light beams
running full five screen wide , L Lc C Rc R = wow directional dialog pans and moves smoothly and follows tracks the on-screen , baby boom rumbles deeply with THX an the stereo surrounds are top notch around x8 JBL 8330 mk2 ( can use a lot more JBL surrounds in the room ) encompassing truly for the signature sound field reference

when the richard donner credit appears the stereo surrounds engage , when the " s " appears blasting from surrounds to screen channels , mega wow it with bass ! the score is jaw dropping in THX sound system

5mins 04 seconds wow , what did i just listen to ? my jaw was somewhere on the floor ? ? that is one heck of many cinematic score openings to a movie

once pal pressing of aliens goes on the platter its mostly side 3 in cav , mostly , wow the Dolby Stereo mix here in THX sound system
pioneer dvl 909 , the smoke machine adds extra wow

a huge change in the part of the rack early september , its 2u frame its bigger wider than the whole universe , once tested and figured out how the install will go and if install is smooth i give it a month or two and get the next part for it so possible huge change in in THX cinema

I use the JBL 4645 in my own system - four of them operated in stereo with two per side. I have tuned the cabinets lower by blocking off two of the three ports (mine have three smaller ports rather than one larger one). I also use the JBL surrounds you have (the wedge shaped ones). I used to be an engineer at JBL so I got all this stuff at employee cost. :p
Just started reading this old thread and came across this post.
Surely blocking 2 ports will raise the tuning frequency not lower it?
The frequency of a reflex enclosure is the mass of the air in the ports on the compliance of the air in the cabinet. Blocking 2 ports is a considerable reduction in mass so will raise the reflex tuning frequency.
It may help reduce booming depending on location and so forth but definitely not at a lower frequency.

Wow @Andysu I have just found your amazing thread but have only got to page 5 - it will be a long time before I have read it all.
I have 2 laservision players and loads of discs but haven't used them for ages and not sure my Marantz cinema pre has the correct inputs. I used to use it with a Meridian processor which did iirc.
One of my players probably needs an internal belt change. You are inspiring me to have a look back in my times! My kids, now in their 40s, all enjoyed Star Wars and loads of others on laservision.

what most don't grasp is laserdisc only format to have theatrical dynamic range mixes , be it Dolby Stereo 4.2.4 or AC-3 , blu uhd has had pretty much its time with me with those near field mixes
so what of laserdisc is on the smeared side , the specs are there for blu uhd its the studios that are purpose botching up so to use poor excuses with some soundmixer going around with even more poorest of excuses , the specs are there there just being abused by studios and when one hears/reads ai , its a total turn off , james cameron and soundmixers can stay in that moms basement with their rubbish near field mixes

new movies or new dcp do not no longer care for it , do not buy new movies anymore , plenty of catalogue titles on laserdisc , sure can get some dodgy ones and some exceptionally good ones , blu uhd its gonna be a ( raw near field mix deal ) rather spend the £ on cat food or a decent laserdisc , i have to quit as the collection to what satisfy myself or please others ? i barely now have space to store the discs

got my own steven seagull ( its an insider laserdisc joke known to a few )
