Thoughts on RAAL tweeter? BMR tower and Ascend ELX

I suspect that the RAAL ribbon tweeters might be more fragile and less durable than a standard dome tweeter. This is ok if you live in the same country or easy access to send to repair, but in another country without local customer service the RAAL feels riskier to me.

@AscendDF am I right?
My history w/ ribbons:

* Panasonic on my DQ-10 in place of tweet and super tweeter in early-mid 80's

* Changed my DQ-10 to the Pyramid

* Bought a Duetta Sig w/ ribbon tweeter later 80's

* Got a Maggie 3.5 w/ ribbon tweets

* Triangle Celius 202 used for HT w/ Fountek ribbon

* same Fountek tucked into a ProAc Tablette

* BMR Philharmonic Monitor w/ Raal

I had some of these for years, and know where most of them are at today - zero problems with any of them - as long as you keep DC out of them and cross them over at 18 db or greater slope above 3.2k, or 12 db around 4k.

How are you liking your philharmonic? How long have you had it?

Late reply. Great. My endgame. Outside of shortcomings which I manage or do not care about they are amazing even at twice the price:

Lims:

Full dynamics at high volumes - these are not horns. They are for classical, jazz, and well recorded pop/rock. Between my room, my tastes, and the speakers. I'm in the high 60's-82 db program range - peaks obviously higher. One notable thing is how superb the definition of details is even at very low volumes.

Horizontal dispersion, one must either have a very wide back wall (20' +)and with some natural absorption/diffusion, or add those things at the first reflection point. Of course a room that big might suggest the Towers as a more likely choice.

Have to have ears at tweeter height, which means stands in most cases I can imagine.

They are moving from the Raal ribbons to AMT which have less horizontal dispersion, so it could change the staging - a notable top trait of mine. They also are making a mini run of the Monitors with two mids in a MTMW config like the Towers, but with the cabinet and woofer of the Monitor. Don't know what the diffs in the tweeters are since I have not and am likely not to hear them - they claim one can't tell in double blind. The AMT's are probably cheaper to source and a bit more rugged, and probably play louder. Not clear to me at this time.

Voicing (or design / implementation) is much more important than tweeters themselves. What you are hearing is our design with speaker drivers contributing to that big picture. AMT BMR has been in real life for 6 months. Customers who went to our Vienna facility has been hearing the AMT BMR. Even I pointed out for them, they mostly do not care - simply enjoying the sound.

We will bring AMT BMR to 2026 AXPONA, Room 705. April 10 - 12. Hope to meet you there. :)

We plan to bring Super Mini. But a last minute arrangement, we might bring the new Super BMR with Purifi CEO unveiling with us - still working on logistics. There will also a new Tower model unveiling at AXPONA.

Hmm, I wonder if the Purifi driver would work well sealed due to that larger enclosure (compared to other similar speakers). If you were intending to use subs it would be great.

Dennis's greatest ability is xovers and what to fit them with - so yes it's a key point.

I admit to being a mega ribbon guy dating back to the early 80's (described in a post above). I have heard AMT's going way back, very nice, but didn't hit me the same - although diff conditions, etc.

You guys are great so far all the way back to the kit Monitors which I heard, so I'll keep an open mind.

Purifi is in a tapered transmission cabinet with a slot port on the back. It is larger than the BMR because of the tapered TL cabinet.
