Unless aesthetics are an overriding concern then direct drive > belt drive every day of the week for me.
Yes I'm starting to rationally think for my needs vs cost I'm not going to notice or experience 3xs the cost.Interesting discussion on the relative benefits of Rega 6 vs Rega 3. TLDR: stick with the 3 https://www.audiosciencereview.com/.../turntable-playing-with-same-cartridge.64787/
Personally, I'd get the techics (build quality, speed stability and (personal) aesthetics). Actually, I'd spend less and get an Audio Technica direct drive
You have a solid plinth turntable with next to no isolation, sitting on a shelf with the speakers sitting directly either side on the same shelf?I got a Rega P3 during Covid and still like it.
Nobody has properly tested the ND7 as yet so all we have is subjective opinion, usually in comparison with the ghastly-dull Exact 2 predecessor. No slit or laminated pole pieces, no distortion test to see what not having a tie wire does (only Roy Gandy's rigid marketing-led subjective views). It's a very expensive pickup when AT has arguably better for far less (look at the VMx 740/745/760 models) and the 2M Bronze in Rega slim-trim is also cheaper and sounded fab in a current Planar 3 I set one up in a while back...Down the rabbit whole....
It gets deeper as they say.
Rega Planar 6 with nd7
NAD m10v3
B&W 905s3
But I am going to demo as there's almost 2k difference when looking at the technics vs the Rega P6.
This is going to be a focused listening environment for me and I am particularly sensitive to subtle changes coming from a background of music production all be it a hobby, my ears whilst aged, do pick up subtlety.
Demo demo demo.
Bet I go for something totally different in house.
Thanks and still open to other horizons as I'm blowing my budget.... However I think initially I'm going to get the amp and speakers use the sl1210s once refurbished as this will give me a solid foundation of listening to compare what I would get with the P6 and nd7.
Guilty as chargedYou have a solid plinth turntable with next to no isolation, sitting on a shelf with the speakers sitting directly either side on the same shelf?
That picture is doing in what's left of my dealer vibe big-time. I'm sorry... The deck really must be re-sited away from the speakers and used with lid off as it acts as a soundboard even when lowered when playing.
Apologies, but fifty years in and behind the scenes of this industry and knowledge gleaned from selling, servicing and setting up countless Rega decks is still there despite retirement...
Ah ok that's good input re the nd7 re reviews I've not dug deep, yet.Nobody has properly tested the ND7 as yet so all we have is subjective opinion, usually in comparison with the ghastly-dull Exact 2 predecessor. I'm not totally against Rega you know. I have one and a half R200 arms (the half one needs rebuilding and bearings re-setting), a brand new RB330 arm (arguably one of the best tonearms out there regardless) and a recently acquired mint RB300 to go on another deck that's not geared up for the three-point modern RB fitting). I'm totally bonkers as if you hadn't noticedGuilty as charged
