With the UMC204HD putting up such respectable numbers, I started looking at their product line to see what else might be feasible. There's 3 "categories" of products that I'm interested in. I THINK these delineations might make sense:
* UM2 and UMC22
* UMC202HD, UMC204HD, and UMC404HD
* Monitor2USB
Given that we want XLR balanced or RCA outs, that eliminates the umc22 and the 202hd.
We already know the measurements of the 204HD. It seems safe to assume that the other HDs will have the same DAC stage.
What about the non HD models? And what about the Monitor2USB?
There are a couple of potentially interesting points here:
* 404 and Monitor2 have balanced outputs, which some might find important
* If these are all equivalent, one can save a lot of money by going with a UM2
2 is $30 (!!)
204hd is 77
404hd is $100
Monitor2USB is $150
Seems like 404hd is a super solid deal here. For the same price as OL DAC you are getting balanced outputs.
