Thoughts on NAD M17 V2 / V2I?

Looking for pre-amp/AVR to use for both Hi-Fi music listening and movie watching. The NAD seems to be the best of both worlds considering the inevitable compromises that come with wanting an all in one system.

I plan on staying at a 2.1 system - pairing the NAD with the best used stereo power amp I can get my hands on.

As of now the only thing my setup consists of are my Dynaudio Contour 20i speakers.

Reviews on the NAD seem to be mixed so ANY ADVICE AT ALL is greatly appreciated! :)

I can get it used for $2350-$2700

NAD has almost got itself out of the customer service business. They seem to be existing off the excellent reputation they built up over decades in the past. That is disappearing with poor customer service business Why don’t you try another brand?

What are you asking? I'm talking about the NAD M17 V2 / V2i of NAD electronics. I apologise if I'm being dense

Whoops only half of your message was loaded in - I understand now. I am asking specifically about this device since it is available to me at a low price near me. A close contender was the Anthem AVM 70 but anything like that is not being sold used in my country. The $2350-$2700 is already more money than I have atm, so I would have to save up for it. Alternatives for me are limited to buying AVR's like the AVM 70 at retail - which is impossible for me

It’s old, weird and expensive and has a horribly usability flaw that it’s impossible to turn the screen off. On the plus side the analogue bits on the V2i at least are competently designed, some of the older versions of the analogue cards had issues which were discussed to death in the owners thread on avforums.

As someone who owns an NAD M27 power amp and would be prime market for an aesthetically matching AVP I’m afraid I wouldn’t consider it and I’d buy a Marantz AV20 instead.

Is the Marantz AV20's DAC on par with the NAD's? But in general - my interest in the M17 V2i only comes from the fact that it is available to me at a low price and it seems to match 90% of my needs in building my multi-function setup. But are you saying the cons absolutely outweigh the pros? You mentioned their older version being bad - that isn't a problem since I can get either. Both the V2 and V2i are being sold near me at the $2350-$2700 price point.

You really really want to buy this good deal. BUT what if it turns out to be a glitchy nightmare that gives you problems. Try AVS “official NAD xxxxx owners forums.” Just read through them to get an idea of how they behaved for the actual owners.

YES! haha I just want to be sure that the cons are actual dealbreakers for me. If it is objectively horrible I would of course prefer to save my money. I just haven't (over the past year mind you) found similar deals on similar AVR's and I live in Denmark where there is a pretty solid second hand Hi-Fi market.

It's not that I'm not open to alternatives - there just aren't any since I would have to buy them at retail price.

Thx for replying so much btw I rly appreciate it

And yes I will be looking at AVS

Btw I can get the Arcam AVR 20 used for the same price as the NAD.

Don't see any particular attraction for NAD unless you just want to spend more. The music vs movie watching argument is fairly stupid.....good audio is good audio, the content doesn't matter unless you've compromised your choices perhaps. Arcam isn't particularly "better"....more another overpriced boutique brand.

Yes see the reviews of the AV10 the AV20 should be slightly better but has not been tested by Amir yet.

I had a M17 for a short while. It replaced a M15 which I had for many years and loved, but the M17 had minor bugs that made it annoying to use. I can't remember them all, but I think it was not being able to dim the display, the remote having sharp edges and clicking sounds that did it. Now I have a Denon X4800 and am a happy man. Atmos was a great addition to my home cinema.

The clicking sounds is the flaw with the analogue output cards they allegedly eventually fixed it with an updated card in the v2i.
