WANTED: Happy members who like to discuss audio and other topics related to our interest. Desire to learn and share knowledge of science required. There are many reviews of audio hardware and expert members to help answer your questions.
Click here to have your audio equipment measured for free!
Dogs can hear up to 65kHz. If dogs were audiophiles, you would have to rewrite all your reviews. Even a sampling rate of 96kHz wouldn't be enough, so all audio components need to be re-engineered, and all published music would need to be remastered. Musicians have to rewrite music to avoid accusations of being "doggist" or "doggophobic". We would all have to check our "Homosapiensprivilege". To a dog, 20kHz must sound like midrange to the rest of us. Barely adequate! It's a good thing that dogs aren't audiophiles.
Lets show our felines some love... their hearing is better than dogs
"Cats and dogs often get compared to each other, and many people engage in heated debates to determine which pet is better than the other. When it comes to the arena of hearing, science has proven that cats generally have better hearing than dogs. They can detect sounds from further away and hear a wider range of pitches."

There would be so many questions about dogs+hearing.
*Do older and male dogs' hearing falter as do male humans' hearing?
*Are there any male/female hearing difference in dogs as with humans.
*Can they also get tinnitus?
*Would they prefer rock, alt, metal?
I try to find names for pets that include letters making sounds that are higher pitch and/or more impulsive.
Particularly, sounds of "CH", "SH" and "S". Then, I try to select harder (lower frequency) vowels (("Ah", "Oh" "Ooh") to cover the spectrum, just in case.
ADD: Scientists say they’ve discovered a ‘phonetic alphabet’ in whale calls (link) May 2024
Years ago, I was in a dog park watching a Special Forces vet making soft clicks and noises for his dogs who were over 50 ft away chasing squirrels.
Asked him about it. The dogs hearing are that sensitive. So its no joke. I do the same w our dog in the morning to call her to us.
My wife hates it though.
