I'm thinking about a new project for 2025. One of my ideas is a standing 3-way tower, with a ripole sub as a base. For the ripole I'm thinking about 8x a GRS 6LPSW-4 6.5'' , per base. This mainly due to availability, price and size/depth. A bit like the Visaton Grand Orgue, but smaller; https://www.hifisound.de/Do-it-your...e-Speaker-KIT-without-Cabinet-pair-price.html
On top of the base I'd like to use a 8" SB20FRPC30-8 in an open baffle, together with, for example a XT25SC90-04 as a (super) tweeter. (All housed in a plexiglass panel.)
The XT25 is 4ohms. vs 8ohms for the SB20FR. Would this compensate for the lower sensetivity of the XT25?
I rarely reache above 75-80dB at my listening position, when playing music.
I would be using 3 separate amps and a pre-amp with DSP/XO in a 2.1 configuration. Thus, I would need to filter the XT25 (and possibly the SB20FR) with passive components.
Would this be possible? And if so, would it be 'smart'? If both are yes, than the easiest way would probably be to just use a first or second order filter on only the XT25. But wouldn't it be better to also include the SB20FR and use first-order filters for both? (with a XO around 5khz possibly?)
Maybe I should only use the SB20FR and scrap the idea of adding 'complications'. (a tweeter)
The thing is, I simply do not love the look of just a fullrange on a panel, and looks are important for me, lol.
Allright, enough rambling on for now. Sorry for my english. It's late and it's not my native language. ;-)
