OK... I can perfectly imagine a few half drunk German dudes sitting around saying:

"You know what would be cool? We make a slippery merry go round. Then get a bunch of girls wearing skirts to sit on it. We then spin it all around and watch you know what. And oh, as a bonus, we could take videos and post it on youtube!!!"

I can imagine a bunch of males not fully out of puberty in US thinking of the same.

What I can't imagine, is seeing girls run to participate in such a thing!!!

What on earth is going on in Germany? Can someone explain this?

We had one of these at Luna Park in Sydney... many many years ago, so not anything new as such;

I must admit when I was a young teenager I was hoping to see a bit of action... and did.

The person that was on there last as it got faster won a prize FWIR.

They need a pants vendor nearby. :D

They seem to have fun. Lots of fun. But then, there are like kinds of entertainment in other countries...

The skirts are not skirts but Dirndls, because this is Oktoberfest. This is where everybody (well, almost) drinks quite some beer.

Tradition, innit!

Crazy and drunken at the Munich Oktoberfest. Many foreign visitors come for this.

This happens when you combine a human crowd + beer + turntable on a regular basis.
The female interest here is to put yourself in the center spot - literally.

There are also quite some things that Americans consider fun and we (Germans) just don't understand: Gender reveal or spring break parties, blocking crossroads to perform donut burnouts, guns... and many more.

I think watching girls on a spinning platform can be amusing and won't hurt anyone.

When I saw the title, I thought this would be about Barbara's Rhubarb Bar madness.

Oktoberfest is the best. Teufelsrad's existance is somewhat reassuring, in that it goes to show young people's affinity to stupid things for fun predates social media

Too often adults forget how to have creative fun. Sadly, they can get so far removed from the simple enjoyment of having fun that they look derisively on other adults who still revel in the spirit of it. Kudos to these Germans for remembering that adults can also just have fun.

You can make fun of them, but that's what these ladies are capable of ... Could you?

Hence the ability, given any unwanted/inappropriate drunken Oktoberfest back chat, to knock you out. Then carry you out.
(Which is also very cool.)

It's a very old traditional carousel at the Munich Oktoberfest. Funny how special it looks to foreigners whereas it's not special for me, never thought about that :)
