The best compliment I can give the waxwing - I went out and bought new records!
Have not done that in 20yrs. Here I thought I had become a 100% streamer

I also use the waxwing via tape out loops for several different sources and outputs. Shannon plans to add some additional PEQs soon.

Do you have anymore info on the additional PEQ's? I've always been hoping that we could get a few more EQ bands to really help fine tune the sound to our cartridges / speakers.

My Waxwing (#1938) developed a problem. At moderately loud listening levels with no music playing, I could hear a faint steady stuttering sound coming mostly from the tweeters in my mains. It almost sounded like a helicopter in the distance - a fast rhythmic pulsing. Obviously not normal, since the device should be dead silent for all intents and purposes. Extensive troubleshooting failed to isolate anything external that might be causing the issue, so I initiated a return to Amazon and ordered a second unit. This one (#1998) IS dead silent, using the same 5V/1A USB plug and USB cable.

I spoke with Shannon, and this year he's focusing on improving the Magic feature. He plans to add more PEQ later. He says the processor has enough headroom to achieve this.

So, looks like Shannon is rolling out an open source web app to control the waxwing. This means that even if the App Store goes down, you will be able to alter the settings on the waxwing. The GUI looks to fit every feature in one page also! Looks very cool.

I’ve also been told that it’s very easy to make the app work with different themes to your taste.

The amount of perfectly serviceable but defunkt hardware, due to apps that no longer function, is growing by the year, no to mention enshitification through pay-walling previously free features. Seeing Shannon adding open source web app is like a breath of fresh air. I love my waxwing!

Side note - next year I will need to separate my turntable from my amplification, by about 10 feet. Same room but a chimney breast in-between them. I probably can find a way to run a 12ft-15ft optical cable from the waxwing to the amp, but also was considering an LDAC Bluetooth transmitter and receiver. The fiio one that I use in my car works flawlessly - any thoughts on pros / cons, or alternatives? (The physical location of amp and turntable is non-negotiable)

turntable next to listening chair via LDAC to amp is probably best way to listen to records imo especially for 7 and 10”.

I've done both, starting with the bluetooth.

I went to toslink because:

1 - theoretically better audio quality. (Though I never heard a difference)
2- More importantly the bluetooth would periodically lose connection and need to be re-paired. That was a pain in the ass.

Depending on the browser you use - essentially only Chrome derivatives support the Web Bluetooth API without needing a plugin because neither Apple nor Mozilla think it's safe. There are separate Firefox plugins for Windows and linux - not sure about Macs.
