Nice try, but I'd pick the Panasonic AG7500: It had all of the features that a professional environment might need, save for a better mediumHarman Kardon VCD1000 was the ultimate VHS HiFi player, hands down.
In the mid/late 1980s,1" and 3/4" aka U-Matic, were still in use, but seemingly headed for legacy status. I liked Betacam SP. D2 and Digital Betacam were making inroads, but IIRC were really expensive, and the guys doing post-production work got them first.
For some crazy reason, at one television station, we made VHS dubs for rebroadcast using cheapo consumer RCA machines, the kind that seemed to be mostly lightweight plastic and thin sheet metal. But they never really died! As with all other tape machines, the top covers were sitting in place sans fasteners, because at least once a day, if not once per shift, the on-duty tech would wipe down drum and tape path. I guess the repair guys were able to purchase drum/head assemblies as needed, because those RCAs were never replaced.
