The VHS Revival, It's True And Happening

But you’ll need an analogue TV or you only get dots
I think those machines almost universally had composite output. Even now way too many AVRs have composite inputs. You'll be fine. You can watch your 300 or so lines of resolution in pure 4K splendor.

Back in the day when I was running an audio repair shop -- which had been in business since the 1950s -- there actually was one of those wire recorders sitting on one of the back shelves, left behind after its owner was told it couldn't be fixed way back before my time there.
Two or three years ago a yard sale in my area had a console stereo that had a wire recorder. It was all in working order. There were a few spools of the wire. They played one which was at some child's 8th birthday party.

No, they really have stopped making them. Apparently there are tens of thousands of unused machines around, but good luck with warranty
Ahmm, I don't think so.

If it had been a portable version I would have. I just don't have space for a console with record player, tuner, speakers and cabinet.

I initially went to NewEgg & since they are still selling a form of them, I figured someone is making them.
I know that in 2023 30 new titles came out on VHS by February, so that was also a factor in my believing that they were still being produced.
Thanks for the information.
But, I still can't wait to get back to the islands in the Western Pacific or Indian Ocean where none of tis stuff matters.
But, as long as I am here, being able to listen to music LIVE (not so common out there, at least not in the same way)
Or on good to great stereo gear, again (not so common out there).
But, the quality of life, extremely good (any place that doesn't go below 73 or above 94 seems pretty good to me).

Don't they listen to recorded music there?

Given what is still made, it wasn’t an unreasonable assumption.

And I’m sure somebody is planning to release a CRT TV with built in VCR to cash in on the craze for everything else analogue. I’m sure they would sell a few…

My deceased pal with the audio 'museum' (plus a handful of Sony and B&O TVs in full working order which I gather were dumped after his passing as nobody wanted them), had a Hitachi DIGITAL AUDIO VHS recorder. The tape was loaded vertically so it could be seen, but I have no idea on performance as like everything else he had, it was on show as a 'collectible.' he did have a Sony Walkman Pro and one of their DAT recorders which he did use however...

Maybe Betamax would win for it's (somewhat) better (perceived? [what, with the TV's own resolution at the time]) picture quality.
Laser Discs, anyone?
Betamax was way better than VHS, especially when making multi generation copies.

An initial copy of even a master VHS tape would be poor - but Betamax didn't suffer from this problem, until the copies were 3 - 4 generations in.

I still think it's unfortunate that VHS won the battle of the format wars, but then I also think it's unfortunate that OS/2 lost to Windows.... ;p

Damn you have a big collection of some serious video gear!
VHS Hi Fi could offer some great sound recording quality in it's day, I played with it for a short while doing LP needle drops until the home computer
came along.
