The Topping E8x8 Pre in practice. A few thoughts and first impressions.

thanks for all the info @yo! ; can I ask, can you set up a routing / software mix in the software, save to the device, and then use it without usb connected but only the mains?

I did a quick test.
Activated the mic 48V, set it unmute and routet it to the heaphone out 1.
Saved all to the device.

Unplugged USB.
At least with this scenario, I get sound on the headphone out as with a stand alone unit. So, yes it works this way.

I guess it works with the main outs too, but can't get that deep into testing as the setup is sophisticated, built in the rack and I won't create more work as needed. It's hot here 33°C.

Awesome, thanks for following up so fast. Seems ok then. I guess this is also what you’d expect given that it has adat out so seems to be intended as dual use, either interface or 8 pre-amps. It’s nowhere documented though and audiophonics who sell the interface said “Unfortunately a computer will be always needed to be able to use settings.” but maybe my question didn’t come across as intended
