I've looked around for a while, and what seems sorely missing here is great sound from racing cars and such. We're all suckers for great sound here, right, so why not post awesome machines that literally grind all their gears, and ours with it? Post whatever, as long as it sounds awesome!

The ultimate for Diesel lovers:

Perhaps not racing per se, but let's be generous and revere all engines here, the bigger, the better. As long as the recording halfway does it justice. The sound of the machine shall be the topic of this thread. :D

From big to small: how about Hayabusa Turbo, classic Ghostrider? Sure makes a lot of glorious noise!

More fun is always better...

More Diesel power... of the legend, the Audi R8!

Unfortunately, there probably aren't any recordings of the sounds of an early-eighties Mazda RX-7 with the 13B two-rotor, rotary engine running at Lime Rock Park. Standing in the open-air 'garage' area, at the end of the front straight and the entrance to "Big Bend", right before the "Esses", they would come down there with a whistling whine, almost silent, then when the driver mashed the throttle at the apex, all Hell would break loose with unbelievable buzzsaw-like whine that you could actually feel as the car went into the entrance to the "Esses"—or into the woods if the driver got into it just a tad too early as the current fencing wasn't there then. Fond memories . . .

At lime rock park...

As a lover and hobby maker of electronic music and also car and racing sound enthusiast, I'm telling you this is PRIME stereo sampling material! Holy shit, it's super awesome. Instant Techno! We electronic musicians are real suckers for expressive rhythmic farts, I tell ya!

A comparison of V8, V10, V12, and V6 Turbo Ferrari F1 cars. Try listening without watching the video and decide which one sounds the best to you.

Having heard all of these engines except the V12 trackside, IMO the V6 Turbo sounds the worst. When a V8 or V10 flies by you, the sound is so loud that you need hearing protection. You can really feel the energy. A V6 Turbo doesn't sound anywhere near as exciting by comparison. That's what the recording seems to lack.

And here is a recording of the Ferrari 499P Le Man race car. It's 8 hours long. IMO it sounds amazing. And yes, I know it's virtually the same engine as the F1 V6 Turbo.
