Yea, it's always: "follow the money" huh?

I'm deeply suspicious of any trend or fad or norm these days and always look to see what sub-context is actually lying underneath. I'd like to say I'm not a conspiracist nut job but really, questioning anything seems likely to put you in that category these days.

The drive for AI is time driven given that humans can only do one thing at at time and usually that time is expensive.

The unintended consequences is a good observation and I agree.
I think of the unintended consequences streaming and personal media has had on the industry.

Traditional TV is now dead. Any decent content is now made by 3rd parties such as Netflix or amateurs on YouTube.

Same for music. The big music giants are dead. Discovery is now mostly independent and that money that used to filter down to the undiscovered has dried up.

I don't watch TV much anymore and my favourite musical artists are self promoting.

What will be the consequences of AI in music?

Hmm, it's a good question.
 
After 60 years of dedicated music listening now I enjoy the sound of silence (no music, no speach). My feeling is that many people listen to music in order not to bear the otherwise silence. My music taste was broadened but not totally changed. At least here in Germany the radio stations deliver aside from classical music all kind of doodle-doodle bam-bam music which seems to be the right one for the majority of the listeners. I can't listen to this. It is meaningless music for me. And with AI created music this will become even worse.

I say this as someone who's livelihood is directly and presently threatened (terminally) by AI. It's just a matter of time that my career as it stands will cease to effectively exist.
No different than a coal miner coming to the realisation that coal sold cheaper elsewhere puts him out of a job.

As humans we have to move on.
As humans we don't like change and will feel threatened by it but that's just how life is.
Change is dangerous but it's where the potential always resides.
