the most beautiful and famous pop songs of the 40 years

Hmm. From the turnout so far, it's like the last 25 years do not even exist. (Mind you, I'm having an equally hard time finding something that ticks all the boxes at once. Popular music just doesn't have the same cultural dynamics that it used to, it all got a lot more fragmented.) And a lot is getting dangerously close to the 40 year cutoff, if not beyond (including all of the Police).

Mind you, I'm not helping the cause much (this one is from 1986):

Nice choice. I never watched a CT music vid before and my first thought was: What do you imagine it was like for Fraser to have to lip sync to the glossolalia on the record?

"Heaven Or Las Vegas"

Who'll ever win?
Gee, you're just so ephemeral
Go back for new
For new in vain, it failed

Singing on the famous street
I want to love a boy that won't love me
Am I just in heaven or Las Vegas
That's why it is more brighter than the sun is to me

He's a hustler
It's a role, he'll never make a suit
Hang on to this
So stay and spin and fail and fail
Who'll ever win?
Gee, you're just so ephemeral
Go back for new
For new in vain, it failed

Singing on the famous street
I want to love a boy that won't love me
Am I just in heaven or Las Vegas
That's why it is more brighter than the sun is to me
Reaching this itch in my soul
That's like any old playing card
It must be why I'm thinking of Las Vegas
Why it's more brighter than the sun is to me

Furthermore, let's blast it off
I'm dizzy so I go under the Big Dipper
Come fantasy for a carnival
I'm empty before our wedding

Singing on the famous street
I want to love a boy that won't love me
Am I just in heaven or Las Vegas
That's why it is more brighter than the sun is to me
Reaching this itch in my soul
That's like any old playing card
It must be why I'm thinking of Las Vegas
Why it's more brighter than the sun is to me

Maybe there, while you was rail
I'll go in and seize your heart and be personal
I suspect I'm singing to you a tune
And still you find the beat and sing it to you soon

More Cocteau Twins - Lorelei:

Suzanne Vega - The World Before Columbus:

Then Bobster's revival:

An outtake from the "Time Out of Mind" sessions. Reworked for the "Love and Theft" album. The quote at the bottom of my page is from this song:

Wait! What?

So when she sang for the Massive and in interviews said it was nerve-wracking as she'd never had to sing lyrics before ... it was all a big joke?

OK. I'll include titles etc. Just curious. What security/OS is blocking for you?
I'm using uBlockOrigin's filter for this purpose... :)

I'm not sure - I've seen lyrics for earlier songs:

"Lorelei"

Get off the car
Kick his chain
Kick his pride, get him soaked, hit, run
Lift up your toes
In my mouth
And we can make love
And we can go

And we can go
And we can go
We're covered by the sacred fire
When you come to me, you come to broke

Get off the car
Kick his chain
Kick his pride, get him soaked, hit, run
Lift up your toes in my mouth
And we can make love
And we can go

And we can go
And we can go
And we can go
And we can go
We're covered by the sacred fire
When you come to me, you come to broke

Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without a doubt
Without a doubt

We're covered by the sacred fire
When you come to me, you come to me broke
Guilty girl, guilty boy
Get to make out, him chocked with mousse
Lift up your toes in my mouth
And we can make love
And we can go
Guilty girl, guilty boy
Get to make out, him chocked with mousse
Lift up your toes in my mouth
And we can make love
And we can go

So, there's lyrics, but they look more like word salad. In any case, The Cocteau Twins are among my favorite 1980s groups, as if you can't already tell.

Mary Margaret O'Hara's Miss America was not a huge hit (to put it mildly) when it was released in '88 but it has gained popularity since and is now on many people's favourite list. I'd go so far as to say it one of the greatest albums of the 20th century ...
