the most beautiful and famous pop songs of the 40 years

The 1980s was when music broke into a number of incompatible sub-genres. There was a lot going on, so much that most people didn't hear a lot of the music that came out.
So outside teenie pop, nothing is famous. My take.

I was a hard rockin metal head in the 80s so all this pOp music for me was new when I started listening to what I missed out on @ ~2010.
I was working in the Classical Cassette department of a Tower Records store in the 1980s. I heard a lot of what the other employees were playing, that included things like 4AD recordings, Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson, a little Hair Metal and other odds and ends. I was also collecting old R & B and Jazz records at the time.

Back in the 60's and 70's there was a lot of music on the radio, and a certain hegemony in the playlists of radio stations playing popular music. This began to break down in the 1980s, though MTV took over that role.

I’ve listened to some of the recommended tracks from here, but nothing jumps out and demands my attention. I don’t judge it as bad, just sideways from my interests.

The Cranberries: Zombie
For those that study history, this song made a difference in Ireland to the incessant bombings that were taking place. Delores wrote the song while traveling in a city bus in London, immediately after an attack that killed children.

LoL... I was the guy working the home audio department in the 80s and getting all my music recommendations from guys like you in the record department. :D

I'm not seeing any posts from you. :D

It depends on the country you live in!
That's for sure. :D I like upbeat music even if metal, hard rock, pop and even jazz. So I skipped all the mooshy beautiful stuff and went for the faster stuff.

OK. I'll include titles etc.

Thank you!

Just curious. What security/OS is blocking for you?
It's coming from uMatrix, I think. It sometimes can be hard to tell I have so many privacy/security enhancing doodads in my main browser.

uMatrix isn't just for protection, it's very educational, revealing the domains different websites get additional resources from. Surprise! The big players have them all on their own domains.

Thank you!

IC... I use my desktop PC for general everyday use and leave the notebook PC for bookkeeping and storage of docs etc and otherwise it just tells me the weather report and does nothing otherwise. The desktop accepts everything/requests other than using AdBlock+ but I use YouTube premium for an ad free experience and a little better video and sound quality bump up. I have so many passwords and cookies on my desktop I'm afraid to use a cookie manager for fear of screwing up the login credentials of all the accounts. :D I should have arranged my security better when I did the OS installation and Chrome too but it's too late now I figure.

Tremendous song but not what I would call beautiful. It's horrible and terrifying. It's kinda like calling Glen Coe beautiful. I find it awesome and foreboding.

I’ve done some searches. I assume when you say famous, it would be a hit. I don’t recognize anything since 1985.

I’m afraid I haven’t watched network TV in the last 40 years, have only listened to classical radio in the car, and only listen to pop music up to about 1980. I go backwards though. Back to the 1920s.

You might be surprised to find people that enjoy your musical taste here @ ASR no matter how out there or unpopular you may think the stuff is. Give it a go... :D I spent many days, months and years bookmarking some thousands of music videos and tracks on YouTube and so it's easy for me to pick a letter in the alphanumeric layout of my music bookmarks and then paste the stuff in here. It is not easy at first but YouTube will as you select stuff offer you suggestions and then it will automatically offer playlists for your musical listening enjoyment. That's how I got going and that's the way that I found thousands of offerings that I enjoy.
