Super clean looking set of classic Vande 2Ce'sUpdated pics!
They are 2Ce Sig II's that I found used, but they were in like new condition when I got them and didn't need any work. I filled the bases with sand the other day which improved the sound.Super clean looking set of classic Vande 2Ce's

I’m posting this to shame myself into tidying up / building some proper enclosures etc etc.
current set up is
Ageing apple mac
Rpi4 & Protodac8 HAT
Volume and balance control & 2x electronic crossovers following Elliott Sound Products designs
Four Elliott Sound products amplifiers (projects 3a and 119)
Focal JMLab 120.1 speakers modified to bypass the internal passive crossovers.
I also have a ‘Tandberg’ badged Thorens deck a Sony 400 capacity CD changer with a digital out and a monster 35kg Yamaha DSP z11 that I used to discover that surround sound does nothing for me. It does help keep the room warm when it’s on though.
All the gear I’ve either picked up cheap at house clearance auctions or bodged together myself.
When I converted the Focals I did it one at a time to check the freq response with REW and ears. Hardly any difference. Subjectively I think the soundstage is sharper with the electronic crossover but this might just be self-audio-foolishness.
Next project is to get a Hifiberry Dac8x and go all digital and see what happens.

Nice choices. I’d love to hear the Philharmonics BMRs in person. Went the other direction with R3s when it comes to directivity. Always left me wondering “what if”I’ve changed it up again,,,,,

Just made some big changes and thought I’d catalog the current state of the main system.
Edgarhorn's, there a blast from the past.Edgarhorn
My wife and I have had this system for almost 10 years now, and it still brings us just as much joy now as it did when I built it.

Thiel CS 2.4 SE
Lenovo tiny PC in a case, running Linux and MusicPD
Bel Canto REF Link USB to AES adapter
Ayre C-5
Bel Canto DAC 2.5
Bel Canto REF500M x 2
Some Furman device that's a glorified power strip
We recently inherited an Ayre C-5, so that's in the system. I use a Henry Engineering 3 input 1 output AES switch to toggle between the USB converter and the CD player.
Power cables are various lengths from the endless supply available at a data center. AES and balanced cables are Mogami, bought on eBay.
I got the Bel Canto stuff for a great price back in the day. While it is certainly a bit overpriced - having the components all match is nice.
The computer case is just a 2U amp case from an Italian DIY audio company. The back panel had 6 holes machined in for D-sized connectors. I put Ethernet, USB (one for the AES adapter, one for an IR receiver), and HDMI, with two left unused.
I just had a coaxial driver repaired by Rob at Coherent Source Service. I highly recommend him for any Thiel owners out there.
The walking sticks probably need to find a new home...
I just added decorations. Two of them, but which ones?

This took me a bit over 6 years (half of that was a project break), but I finally finished my dedicated soundproof home theater and listening room about a week ago. I've posted about it a few times in other threads, but not all the details. The room was almost entirely DIY from conception to completion, representing thousands of hours of my time learning, planning, and building. The theater plays flat to 10 Hz, up to 110 dB. Above 110 dB the infrasonic content compresses, but above 20 Hz or so it'll hit 115 dB.
AV Gear (7.4.4):
Room:
- Denon AVR X4800H w/ Dirac Live Bass Control
- Buckeye PURIFI 1ET6525SA 3-Channel Amp (for the front 3 channels)
- Philharmonic HT Towers
- Philharmonic HT Center
- 4x Philharmonic True Mini as Atmos Speakers (June delivery)
- 4x Revel S16 as Side and Rear surrounds
- 2x Rythmik F18s in front
- 2x JL Audio e112 Subs nearfield behind sofa
- Sony 83" OLED TV (7' viewing distance, 46° FOV)
- Apple TV streamer
My list of things remaining to complete is very small:
- Dimensions: 14' wide by 12' wide by 8' tall
- Soundproofing:
- Walls are 2x 5/8" drywall + 1/2" plywood and Green Glue between, 1/2" gap double stud walls decoupled with DC-04 clips
- Ceiling is 2x 5/8" drywall and Green Glue, RSIC-1 clip/channel decoupling
- Subfloor above ceiling has 2x 5/8" drywall and Green Glue applied between the joists
- Walls and ceiling insulated and fully filled with Rockwool
- HVAC supply and return have large silencers built from MDF, drywall, and GG, decoupled with DC-04 clips
- Electrical outlets/switches have 2x thick MDF backer boxes
- Floating Wicanders cork floor on additional hybrid cork acoustic underlayment (mostly covered by large rug)
- Acoustic Geometry Studio 3D Soundproof Door (2 3/4" thick, >300 pounds)
- Finish Details and Seating:
- Walnut walls and trim made from a mix of 1/2" veneered plywood
- Front wall and ceiling painted with Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black
- A large Room & Board Cade leather sofa with chaise (comfortable seating for 4)
- Custom built LED perimeter skirt lighting to illuminate the walnut walls and visually "float" the ceiling
- 4 adjustable ceiling can lights for additional ambient lighting
- Acoustic Treatments:
- A total of 27 GIK acoustical panels using a mix of 7.3" monster traps and 6" Alpha panels
- 25% coverage on all walls and ceiling
- 8x11 Wool Rug with high pile and a 1/2" felt rug pad (1" total thickness)
It's a small space, so the ultra-wide angle iPhone photos distort a bit, but you get the idea. The TV feels WAY bigger in person than the pics.
- waiting on Atmos speaker delivery
- stain/finish the maple door
- build a walnut AV console to go under the TV (72" wide, 20" deep, 14" high)
