The kit we bought, our current setups

I’m posting this to shame myself into tidying up / building some proper enclosures etc etc.
current set up is
Ageing apple mac
Rpi4 & Protodac8 HAT
Volume and balance control & 2x electronic crossovers following Elliott Sound Products designs
Four Elliott Sound products amplifiers (projects 3a and 119)
Focal JMLab 120.1 speakers modified to bypass the internal passive crossovers.

I also have a ‘Tandberg’ badged Thorens deck a Sony 400 capacity CD changer with a digital out and a monster 35kg Yamaha DSP z11 that I used to discover that surround sound does nothing for me. It does help keep the room warm when it’s on though.
All the gear I’ve either picked up cheap at house clearance auctions or bodged together myself.
When I converted the Focals I did it one at a time to check the freq response with REW and ears. Hardly any difference. Subjectively I think the soundstage is sharper with the electronic crossover but this might just be self-audio-foolishness.
Next project is to get a Hifiberry Dac8x and go all digital and see what happens.

Very much interesting at least for me, since your audio journey seems heading the same destination of mine, ref. here on my project thread.:)

The typical room of an audio hobbyist - and every wife's hell.
I like it

You must set the Z11 correctly.
It has great DSP programs.

I love this. Looks cosy. But also the speakers have all the room they need. My experiences with rooms like this are good.

Now that I'm a consultant (barely) working from home, I can spend more time in my office listening to music. Recently simplified/upgraded: Wiim Ultra (using squeezelite ) Technics turntable (one of the final ones made before production stopped) mostly for show, all into JBL 4329P. Artwork shown is actually room treatments.

Thanks, room is 10 feet by 15 feet long, not shown are carpets bass traps in 2 corners and other room treatments and multiple book sheleves, record crates etc. Speakers have bass reduction switch enabled, still experimenting with Wiim room correction.

Almost all setups need DSP bass management / DSP room correction :)

Nice texture on the wall, looks really nice. Also i photosympathize with your late stage death plant, a sure reminder of our own mortality.

I have an Aperion the Intimus 522 tower speakers and they are truly amazing.

This is my current 2-channel favorite setup. Two pairs of speakers stacked
and both driven full range. The room is just over 15 feet wide and the couch
listening area is 9 feet from the front of the speakers. It is just off the bottom
of the first picture. The front of the speakers are two feet from the wall. The
kitchen extends 10 feet behind the couch (1/2 wall between kitchen and listening area).
It is great to listen to music while cooking.

These two pairs of speakers work well in tandem or on their own depending
on the music being listened to. The KG4 horn tweeters are the weak point
in the system--some days I just want to claw my eardrums out. I have 'adjusted'
the tweeter output with cotton balls for attenuators. Someday I will 'fix' the
crossover to allow for attenuating the tweeter electrically. It is a rough transition
between the lower section and the tweeter.

Klipsch KG4 (late 1980s) and DCM TF350 (early 1090s, re-foamed 2019)

How does the mixer fit into your setup?

How are you using the mixer in this setup?

How does the mixer fit into your setup?
I use the mixer in place of a traditional preamplifier with the benefits of a different eq on each input, two stereo output buses for different amplifiers, mono out sends for center channel and subs if needed, headphone out can be used as another stereo out of more amplifiers. I can also plug in a mic and sing along with some ABBA or AC/DC. LOL

I have several mixers and in general they sound as good as my old stand alone preamp (Yamaha C-85).
