That AC Infinity stuff is really well made and surprisingly affordable. I use one of their rack units above a Class A Pass Labs amp and it gets plenty warm. ;)

Nice! Yeah I'm very happy with the level of control they provide, particularly in smart mode where you can slowly ramp up fan speed based on temp. Good work keeping that Class A cool! :cool:

I just love great quality High Performance stuff.
I've been a gear head all my life. It being HiFi or HotRod motorcycle/car/truck with a scary HP to Weight ratio.
Gotta get that blood pumpin. :p

Agreed! Don't get me started on my C2 Resto Mod dreams! Makes this HiFi hobby look like a picnic!

Very nice! May I ask which wallmounts you've choosen for the LS50? Why Highs and not Atmos? LS50 as Center was probably to weak?
 
The L/R are cardiod so reflections are reduced to a certain extent. Also all front speakers go down to ~35 Hz, so maybe with Dirac ART that will be beneficial at some point. On the other hand: I haven't tried it, but I'm afraid that a pure LS50 setup would have already achieved 98% of the sound.

I can only speculate as to whether the Atmos configuration would sound different/better. I chose an Auro3D setup because I also use the upmixer a lot. Since the cable exits were there, I stuck with it for the upgrade. Couldn't find any wall mounts for the height speakers, so I cut aluminum sheets to size. These were bent by a metal worker to ensure the correct height/side angle and then coated.
 
So I recently bought a Velodyne Acoustics DLS-3750R subwoofer from my local record shop for $50. I know it's not top of the line or anything, but it sounds (feels?) pretty good to me. Also scored a Yamaha TSR-5810 receiver (with remote!) off Craigslist for $50 the same day. If replaced (for now) the Fosi ZA3 I was using. My speakers are PSB Stratus Silver towers, and the sub really helps with the low end on music. Plus the sub is great with movies. Overall a decent deal for $100.

I have a question about THE Wharfedale Linton. Why did they choose to use a 5" midrange and 8" woofer....and not a 6 1/2 " midrange and 10" woofer ? That speaker would have been exponentially better with those much larger drivers, it would have played a lot louder with lower distortion with a 6 1/2" and 10"...plus if you look at that speaker enclosure, it is so wide that they could have easily placed a 10" woofer on that enclosure without making the speaker any bigger. If I was designing the speaker there is NO WAY I would have used a 5" and 8" instead of a 6 1/2" and 10" because they had plenty of room to use a 6 1/2" and 10". Why did Wharfedale CHEAT their customers by using the smaller drivers ??​

I don't have the inside scoop as per why they used the smaller drivers but availability and meeting a price point come to mind.
 
Also, a 6 1/2" midrange would not mate very well with their tweeter. A midrange that large would start to beam (narrowing of off-axis response) lower in frequency than the 5" midrange they used. That could/would create a larger disparity in off axis response.

The difference in cost to the manufacturer between a 5" and 6 1/2" is maybe $10-$20......the difference in cost between an 8" driver and 10" driver is maybe $20-$40. They could have made the Linton much much much much better for just a tiny bit more money. Again, I would have used a 1" or 1.25" tweeter..... definitely the 1.25" tweeter......and I would have used a 6 1/2" or 7" midrange and 10" subwoofer drivers. That speaker would have been sssssooo much better !! For barely any more cost to the manufacturer.

And if you're trying to use the Linton loudspeaker in a large to very large room without a subwoofer - NOT a good idea as that single 8” driver is not going to be able to pressurize the large to very large room at all. You cannot pressurize a large room with just the single 8” driver - and it’s such a shame because they could have made that speaker much much much much better if they would have used a 6 1/2 inch or 7 inch mid-range and a 10 inch woofer. It would have played much much louder and cleaner than the smaller drivers could ever play. It would have pressurized the room so much better with the larger drivers. And financially……. they could have made it's so much better …… for very little money. I don't know why but whenever I look at that speaker I say to myself “They could have made it so much better !! So why didn’t they make it better ?? “
