Hey community

i currently look forward for the next possible headphone.

Previous
- Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro
- Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro

Current
- Audio Technica R70X

Gear
- RME ADI-2 DAC FS

I know that most of the community suggest an eq and i test it on the rme and with software but I didn't really warm to it. So i like the clearness auf the R70x but what i muss is a little bit the lower sounds stage. The successor R70xa is not really better what i`ve heard. But maybe some of you have suggestions

Best regards
Daniel

Hi @lutzeslife!

For better sound stage, I would buy a Hifiman egg-shaped headphone, so Edition XS, Ananda, Arya, etc.

Check out Hifiman's own store for deals on open box, refurbished, b-stock units: https://store.hifiman.com

But be prepared for Hifiman's poor QC.
You may have to return the first one or two units until you get one in good working order.

Of course, there's always the HD800s if you have the budget for one.

Hello @staticV3
thanks for suggestion the egg-shaped variants were currently not on my list. I had test the HE400s and Sundara before i switched to R70x. The pressure on the ears was to high for me and the soundstage doesn`t suprissed me. So the egg-shaped are maybe better

My view is to try to get some high standards, like testing 2-3 very reputed models, even if out of budget. I tested 1500 Eur models, but I currently own 500 Euro headphones. I do not say SQ is clearly correlated with price, I say test good headphones to get a flavor even if not feasible to buy. Then choose affordable headphones that still sound good enough, but now you have the high standards.

Suggesting a better way to you
..
You could get a $20 IEM such as the superb & Hz Salnotes Zero reviewed by Amir Here from there you would really know how those "very reputed", "out of budget" headphones, stack up against te 7 Hz...
So I'd say , get a 7Hz Salnotes (or similarly priced and recommended here at ASR) then ...

Peace.

I go for over ear headphones, that is why I mentioned those budgets.
Whatever suits your approach.
I do not contest measurements.
You cannot contest tastes.
Usually, I try to pick according to taste from what measures well.

Maybe the new Edition XV?
