The internet is breaking down - or so it seems. Reddit is now unaccessible.

Hello my friends. Tonight I have encountered utterly unprecedented problems accessing Reddit.

21051.jpg

"Verify your identity" - options: verified government ID (which means official national ID card, taking a photo and uploading it), or: upload a fucking selfie.

Needless to say, none of which works past the "yea well, yes" clicking stage.

So, currently I have no way to access Reddit - still a relevant social media site - without doing, what exactly?

Uploading my literal Backpfeifengesicht?

Or uploading a photo of my national ID, which doesn't work either?

My face, literally (plz excuse nudity in this heat lol):

And that's not the "not bad" expression, be assured.

A relevant part of the Internetz™ is now unaccessible until further notice, despite honest effort of giving them my fucking personal data.

What the literal fucking hell. Would appreciate experiences, insights, and opinions from all over the world. Please speak freely.

What sort of subs do you visit? You naughty...
I'm the naughtiest Doge you'll ever meet, and that's exactly the point. The general access is now restricted behind a seemingly inaccessible wall.

Please, my international friends, do report whatever the screaming fuck is happening right now with Reddit.

Ropeburn has been banned for clearly being underage! Or maybe his cables are melting? :)

It's probably an automated system, escalating on factors undisclosed. Similar things are happening with substack, discord.. starting with automated content moderation/censoring moving to different levels of account scrutiny is to be expected. It's nothing new, the old socials do that for a long time.

I can only strongly advise not to upload any documents, fotos or similar to such platforms. The discord data breach earlier this year showed us (again): they hoard that data, share it with external systems, don't care about proper handling one bit. Whatever they get must be considered lost forever and used for whatever. AI training being among the more harmless things. After all this is identity-theft material.

So much for the doom outlook. :D

Is that RAL 7038?

I had this same issue a few days ago. Someone posted a link to some war related material, and I was asked to verify my age (I'm UK based) - however I declined. I wasn't that bothered to see the content.

There are some sites who refuse to impose age verification - and Ofcom have tried to sue them lol. Quite how these UK bodies think they have any legal influence over non UK based companies.....

This is why businesses operating on the Internet are required to register a legal representative in various jurisdictions.

As you will recall Imgur blocked access to its service from clients with UK addresses rather than have to deal with these requirements and ill-defined but real legal liabilities.

The moves within these jurisdictions towards supervision of e2e encrypted chat and bans on use of VPNs may or may not be related.

Speaking of Reddit, what is it about that place?

I tried to start with Reddit not very long ago. On a group concerned with Canada where I live I posted a 2-paragraph comment. My comment was summarily deleted by Reddit's AI moderator. I posted no threats and used no bad language and no vitriolic criticism of any one. No one complained about the my post the brief time its displayed, and, IMHO, it wasn't particularly controversial.

It seems the AI moderated simply decided I didn't have the established reputation or gravitas to be permitted a post of more than a sentence or two. I won't back to Reddit very often at this rate.

I'm not a regular user, so not logged in, but when I try it works as such, most of the time. When it does not, I change my location (via NordVPN). Did you try "being in another country"?

All that sh!t with every country enforcing their own rules will lead to "splinternet", but I'm afraid we all can't do much about it.

Sorry to hear that. Not using Reddit as member so can't help much. At one point I did have issues with MS account that required actually speaking to human representative. Had also lost FB account at one point which was after some correspondence restored. Funny enough I don't use any of those any more, but just like to have them.

We're sorry that we reported you as a crazed axe murderer. It was meant in jest. Or was it?
