The Greatest Albums of All Time...

Excellent read this thread! some Rock albums that I didnt see( maybe missed them?):
King Crimson: Radical Action to unseat the Monkey Mind
Porcupine Tree: In Abstentia
The Legendary Marvin Pontiacs Greatest Hits
David Bowie: Low
Joy Division: Closer
Brian Eno and David Bryne: My Life in the Bush of Ghosts
Velvet Underground and Nico

Rock
2. Pink Floyd — The Dark Side of the Moon (1973)

Progressive Rock
4. Pink Floyd — Wish You Were Here (1975)

I hate that these 2 albums are in different genres.
Would anyone have even noticed a mistake if Dark Side of the Moon was in progressive genre, and Wish You Were Here was in rock?
I would be better if both were in progressive genre.
Rant over.

Not being snarky, but is this list meant to be a definitive list of all best stuff or ONLY what the OP has happened to hear?

From the first post in the thread, "... according to ChatGPT o3, at least :). Below is the actual output from o3, with no edits:"

T-Ride - T-Ride.
An Eric Valentine production, it is unique among unique.

It has probably already been stated.
However, "Our wedding album"!
Many, me included, don't read every post in most threads, so...sometimes post something that has been posted before.
If everyone was worried about that, then, after a few pages, there would likely be no further posts after about 4 pages.

Wedding Song, good call!

The Smiths 'The Queen Is Dead' isn't 'rock'. Where is Smashing Pumpkins 'Siamese Dream' which is one of the best things ever done by anyone, ever?

And lots more complaints, in fact I'd just like to say... (Cont. Page 94)
It's been a while since last time I listen to this album. Thanks for brought this up. Such a great reminder.

Gawd there's some crap in the lists in the first post.

All subjective obviously.

EM - Phaedra by Tangerine Dream (we'd not have had the explosion of sequencer based electronic music as quickly had not band member Chris Franke spent a while trying to re-tune the sequencer having slowed the notes down to make a kind of repeating musical rhythm rather than a reverb drenched swirl).

Trans Europe Express? I'd have put The Man Machine above that one myself

One more EM album - Zero Time by TONTO's Expanding Headband

Also, no Beatles or Stones from what I can see. Surely Revolver has to be in there somewhere, or maybe Sgt Pepper?

Thank you, although I am referring to the dusty old book stored in my computer room. :)

Ahem...

Absolute first entry!

Of course, all this is subjective. But it's quite refreshing having a discussion about music rather than gear... from time to time.

Carry on...

About classic rock? I'd rather discuss the relative merits of high sinad amplifiers.

Rock music is one of the pillars of Western Civilisation. If anything, it's not discussed enough!
As I grow older, I begin to understand more about some well-deserved appreciations given to those musicians ability in composing great songs with minimalistic chords (like Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams", Joe Satriani "Summer Song" (those beautiful built upon mixolydian), and TSP's "1979" among other)

I like great books, too. My wedding was on a island with the Western Pacific on one side & the Philippine sea on the other.
It involved us, a witness for each of us & the local governor & their assistant. Then we had a party of 7 (including ourselves) to lunch.
We had been dating about 2 years, had obtained the proper licensing, came back to the island from going to different places (separately) in the world and got married the next day. So the plan was in place, although the exact day was not planned.
The actual calling of people to make it happen did not start until the evening before. There are about 5 pictures of the event & maybe 7 more of the after party.
20 years later, although we consistently go to different parts of the world (sometimes together but usually separately, for months at a time), we are still married.
