That's why I mentioned soundbars before. They have come a *very* long way. I used to think them utter garbage, but I have been quite impressed with some recent ones (but they're not cheap), clearly a large number of smaller drivers with a lot of DSP thrown in can do pretty cool things, and due to the self-contained nature they're quite room friendly, it seems.
We will probably see our "traditional" audio systems integrate more of this "trickery".
That said, I don't want a total black box to be my audio system, I always want some visibility into the whats/whys/hows. Perhaps that makes me "old", my tendency to not simply trust a black box to be perfect and completely self-configuring.
