The album "Lament" by Ultravox and its 40th anniversary reissues are very interesting as they highlight the differences in mastering techniques.
For example, the fact that digital technology was used to create the master in 1984. Although digital represented a revolution in mastering, the comparison with Steven Wilson's new mix, made from the multitrack tapes, shows that the digital processing of 1984 limited the bandwidth above 20 kHz. This highlights the limitations of digital technology from that era.

It is also an opportunity to compare the mastering between the Blu-ray, Streaming, and vinyl record versions, as well as the remastering of the original album compared to the new mix by Steven Wilson. This comparison reveals the complexity of the process, as the results vary from one medium to another.

For example, we note that the remastering of the original version, although in 24-bit 96 kHz, has been dynamically compressed with its DR6. It's a shame not to respect the original, when Steven Wilson's stereo mix has DR11!

The Blu-ray stands out as the big winner, offering a more dynamic 40th-anniversary version enriched with a remarkable Dolby Atmos mix.

On the other hand, for those who prefer the authentic sound of the time, the original CDs and vinyl records are perfect for recapturing the sound quality of yesteryear.
