Harman wins at making speakers. In fact, they win so much speaker-wise that they get tired of winning. And it's not only me saying that, lots of people are saying the same thing.

Big League

Oh, there go my ears playing tricks on me again.

I thought he was always saying something like "We won on that deal. Bigly!"

Which, now that I look it up, is the adverb of "big", and not a made-up word afterall. Oh well. At least I'm not alone.

"Lookups for big and bigly spiked on September 26th and 27th. Many people heard bigly when Trump said big league in the debate"

Is there any reason to spend big money on any DAC whatever it will be used for? Big money isn't required for big time DAC performance.

EDIT: Dynamix beat me to it by a few seconds.

You guys are never going to make friends at Computer Audiophile with that kind of h8ter attitude.

The JBL 708P loox like the speaker you've requested JBL make for you.

I bet it sounds better than the kii audio speakers.

I'm certain it will go a hell of a lot louder with less distortion than the Kii Three.

The 708P is much bigger than the 705P, but only goes 4 Hz deeper...but 7 dB louder.

I could write a book on the troubles we've stirred up over there. :p

Anyone had the opportunity to listen to the Emerald Physics line of speakers?
I find something like the EP 4.8 to check many of the boxes for things I've found important in speaker designs.

It's worth noting that Clayton Shaw, the original creative force behind Emerald Physics (with which he is no longer associated, I think), has a new company known as Spatial Audio and has some newer, very well received designs; some at very attractive prices: http://www.spatialaudio.us/about/
I think Clayton is one of the industry's 'white hats'.

Thank you very much for the info on Spatial! Always a welcome sight to see a engineer let US company coming into the insanity of the high end. He does very much sound like one of the "good guys".
Welcome also to ASR!

What a interesting and original (AFAIK) idea on his dipolar tweeter design in the X1! And MADE IN USA!

Plus the M4 design starting at $1695 a pair, now there's something I could afford. :)

Just went to their website and viewed their product line. An attractive selection. As a former product planning manager, I found interesting the large gap in product pricing between the $2,800 M3 speakers, and the next model up the line, the $14,000 X1 speakers. Also interesting, is that the X1 utilizes a horn upper range driver, while the lower M3 and also the top of the line Lumina models appear to utilize a concentric dome/cone upper range driver. It makes me wonder whether the X1 marks a new design direction for them, or what.

It is worth noting that the mid/upper frequency drivers of all but the X1 are coaxial with proper compression drivers, not domes, and fire through the pole pieces of the 12 and 15" drivers, using the cones as horns, like Tannoys.
The advantage of this lies mainly in the consistency of the frequency response within the conical region which is handy if you have to listen off-axis. A properly designed horn, though, produces flatter response and lower distortion at the expense of ideal off-axis behavior. JBL made the same trade off in the outrageously good new 7 series, like the LSR 705P and 708P which use very well designed waveguide/horns for 1500Hz and above, in the same manner as the new M2. The big difference between them and the X1, sonically, would probably be associated with the dipolar bass of the X1.

Any idea if Clayton has or would be interested in developing the software to run the M series speakers active with a miniDSP box as he does for the X1?

I don't, sorry. I don't actually follow Clayton's activities much these days; I have other priorities at the moment.
I did stumble upon a pair of Emerald Research CS2.3s (two 15" woofers and a coaxial 12", MSRP $5000) for $1500 on Audiogon, though: http://tinyurl.com/h6b45by

Compare with these:

If only I had the room for large speakers. :(
Thanks

I guess it's implicit I will need to use them if I got them? Otherwise I'd pick the ones I'd get most money out of in an ad...

Honestly I'd just like to upgrade my existing ones from "signature" to "esoteric signature" and the bass modules to higher spec/numbers... and matching speakers for the Auro3D mid/upper layers in the theater. ( I don't even want to go up to the largest model on the tops, as that requires longer listening distance than I have. )

That doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of cool speakers out there - there are plenty, but it would take a quantum leap in sound reproduction tech for me to want something else.

I bought a pair of the Emerald Physics CS2.7's used a while back. I really love them. I am a fan of open types of speakers, Magnepans, and others. So this open baffle design really works for me.
