The doghouse thread [for a good laugh]

Why do 100 year-old duplexes have so few electrical outlets that it's hard to find a workable set-up in the space we DO have?
Where are you based out of?

I noticed in European homes, the number of plugs in the wall is lacking significantly compared to the US. And because many European homes aren't build using drywall, it's super hard to add an outlet.

In my home, I can add an outlet fairly easily and since I am pretty handy and skilled with snaking cables, drywall work and having a degree in CE (EE+CS), I have plenty of confidence to add, modified and fix any electrical work in the house. But if my home didn't have drywall, forget it, I would have to hire someone.

I'm in Boston. We have what passes for a big apartment in the city, but we really need one more room and no contiguous neighbors. Plus, we rent, so we are not permitted to make changes like you are lucky and smart enough to be able to do!

On the original issue about buying gear, IF my wife asks, I just say "golfing panther" and she tells me how smart I am, and how great it sounds.

Not just Euro. The situation for US builds is much the same for pre 1960s, drywall is a relatively modern construction invention.
My 1923 Chicago brick bungalow only had one outlet per room except for the 15 x 25 living room which had 2. The lathe and plaster walls made electrical updates very difficult. To top that off the basement also had a lathe & plaster ceiling so that only added to the improvement difficulty headaches.
The kitchen did had a couple extra that were post built add-ons. All rooms had ceiling fixtures with wall switches so in those times one outlet each was considered all you ever should need. LOL

The south brain is extremely ineffective for reasoning.
Maybe this explains why humans are as they are - this "south brain" participates in "production" :p

It seems pretty clear to me from the wedding photograph who suggested getting married inside the mouth of that whale.

Instead of running around whining like a wimp about the speakers the ole lady won't let him put in the living room, or not letting him buy a motorcycle,
He'd be King of his Castle ;)
I stayed single all my life so that I could have any ugly old tube amp or speaker anywhere I wanted it. I was raised in foster homes, and the 3rd (last) one had a nagging alcoholic wife and absentee husband because of that. I ran away as a kid and never looked back. It was in the 1960's and I fell in with a hippie commune, and all went well after that.

Imagine if a guy made those kind of comments in 2026.
I understand the need to have emotional IQ, but I do think we live in a time where things are overly woke and this is coming from someone with a demographic that is typically associated with wokeness.

I have made plenty of comments to my wife that if I were to say it in public, the woke police would try to prosecute me. I don't say things out loud because the woke police nowadays will get you where it hurts, they try to get your employer to fire you. I can't wait until I retire, I will go around saying all the things I want to say with no filter and there is nothing the woke police can do about it.

I told the OL that she could do anything she wanted with every room in the house but the living room was mine to do as I pleased. I only asked for 1 out of 7, that sounds more than \ fair to me?

That kind of sucks. Working and living in the motorcycle culture I never had an issue saying what I was thinking. As for the few of them that got their panties in a bunch, screw em. :p
