The Best IEMs in the World Are Just $8

I was a bit slow:
I have not seen, that sharur gave precise suggestions in the description of the video.

He says:
„The Samsung EO-IA500 and AKG EO-IG955 are the best sounding and measuring earphones money can buy, and only cost $8. This is the ultimate audio blackpill and will be hard to swallow for many.“

EQ for them below:
Preamp: -2.5 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 28 Hz Gain 2.2 dB Q 0.917
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 223 Hz Gain -6.6 dB Q 0.412
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 791 Hz Gain 2.4 dB Q 1.277
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 2335 Hz Gain -0.9 dB Q 1.414
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 2451 Hz Gain 0.5 dB Q 2.998
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 3596 Hz Gain -3.0 dB Q 2.133
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 4868 Hz Gain 1.6 dB Q 1.826

where does he refer or recommend the AKG EO-IG955 in the video? I missed that.. thanks

The two devices are identical in construction. They are only labeled differently:
AKG made the tuning for all Samsung EO-IA 500, but labeled some batches also with their own AKG Brand label.
I think, sharur told this in another video.

According to sharur, there is a lot of work to do (and some money to invest) to let them really sing.

E.g. it is necessary to switch the left and right channel in your computer and then switch left and right, turn them 180 degrees, wear them like conventional IEM‘s with wire around your ear etc. etc. etc.

My recommendation: the Crinacle Zero RED for US$ 50 or so. It just works fine…… - without any tuning and even without EQ!

I'm new to ASR and late to the post/party and managed to got myself 2 pairs in extremely cheap price (like 12usd for 2 IG955s) for the meme. Trying Sharur's EQ and Default EQ set by Poweramp that said Crinacle-711 on it. Honestly haven't been able to see difference between settings yet (device is Samsung Z Flip/iPhone to iFi Go Link Max and straight to headphone, don't have any special mod done on headphones itself). Will try doing more adjustment once I got more tools in hand.

The headphone is surprisingly good at its price (which is heavily discounted), and fitment wise is very good at its own territory (way better than Xiaomi Buds gifted with Xiaomi 3 and Apple Earpods, even some higher tier IEMs which gone too big). Will update more when I listen and tinker them more.

Did you see sharur‘s last nine YouTube videos? In six of them he talks about tweeting and fitting these IEM‘s!
He suggests a special way to wear them: left and right channel physically switched.
Then wear them as normal IEM with cable around your ears.
You must switch left and right back by software.
And he recommends strongly to use the very soft Spinfit W1 eartips, made of medical grade silicon.

With my Massdrop Sennheiser HD 58x Jubilee Earphones I also found out, that sharurs and Crinacle‘s suggestions for
Perfect equalizing are quite similar. I slightly prefere Sharurs suggestions: the headphones sound great after the PEQdB Equalization!

Danke Schöen! I am doing the leap to 955 because of Sharur's spam on 955 and I found a shop that sells them in 50HKD. Chance for me tho so I did the leap. Initially planning to mod two 955s (One with MMCX/2 pin mod and another one would be a recasing for my cosplaying I guess) and leave one as reference phone. I also thought if plugging the wrong side of cable will do the same effect like Sharur did. So far not much difference made with IEM style wearing for me. About the Curve, since I am not familiar with how other curve operates, I'm not gonna say which curve is good or not (Think I am hearing Amirm shoving now lol), but thought of doing Diffusing Field Curve EQ by Etymotic or some older curves on 955 if possible.

I'm gonna buy Eartips later after some tinkering with 955 EQs and more. So far I am pleased.

Cool! A mechanical / engineering solution for the switching left channel to right channel problem!
I am not so talented in this work.
To be honest: most of the time I am using my beloved Crinacle zero red.
The problem: the zero red is without eq so dramatically better… and if I just watching YouTube videos,
as an IPad user, I have simply no EQ!
Just for music listening via roon the parametric EQ is aviable……
In Germany according to Amazon we will receive the next badge of Spinfit W1 Eartips between August and November, so I have an apology to not wearing the Samsungs till November, ha ha ha!
What is the Spinfit W1 Situation in Hong Kong?

Think we got plenty of W1s...Will check out ASAP.
Think my problem is EQ not working well with Tidal so yea...and Yes I only consumed Koss Mods so I did my own assumption here, might be right or wrong here. Apple's thought on EQ really is making a big fuss for wired headphone users hahaahahahaha

So these are better than the free ones Delta gives out on flights? I may buy a pair to try for flying. I also have an LG V40 with it's internal quad DAC I use occasionally also and it still has the headphone jack.

I finally got the chance to try the EQ by Sharur after being fiddled over by settings in Poweramp. Honestly very good first impression, I can see his clear execution mindset. Soundstage wide enough and good vocal performance as I first heard. Comfort wise is good already with stock Eartip. Even if you go full stock the tuning isn’t bad either.

Sadly I’m no American and I don’t speak Imperial Units so I can’t try American Airline Headphones easily…

Lucky-android-user you!!! :)

Lucky-android-user you!!! :)
Yep indeed…I got my friend to thank who sold her android phone to me.

The Diamond Curve is sometimes too bright for treble and would like to find ways to reduce them. When I really tried some soft music like “Departures - Anata Ni Okuru Ai No Uta” (Departures - A Love Song Gifted For You) and “Euterpe” by Egoist (OST in Guilty Crown the Anime), I love how the tuning and the phone performs…ANGELIC. Especially the vocal is so heavenly and thus why the vocalist is chosen for this specific project. It also expresses some details in “Ditto” by New Jeans like I never heard before. Sure 955 got some problems on build quality and some distortion sound heard (IDK how to call them but it’s like a loud scratching noise), but really a good phone for Y2K Hippie Aesthetic comparing to Apple EarPods which sounds…Normal. I did that while cross listening with iPhone tuning and PEQDb EQed Samsung.

I really like the OG fitment already and thought that it makes no difference when I switched to IEM wearing. The shape is refined enough but material isn’t. Would like to rebuild one with custom shells on one example, Modding one with A2DC/MMCX Plug for maximum Snake Oil insanity and one for reference.

Finally something unrelated to my feelings on 955: AKG is like Park Royal Vehicles, built the Routemaster and legendary buses around the cities, yet failing to build one “world product” properly and met their demise. PRV’s case is B15 Titan and AKG for me is 955 which should maybe cost higher if build quality and materials kept up.

As Totti1965, my daily is a Truthear Zero:Red which seems to me one of the best IEMs out there. To me, it was my endgame, after that, I've never keep looking for a new upgrade. But as I had a IG955 which came with my old S10e I've been trying it last days.
Stock don't sounds too bad, but too much upper bass as everybody says. But in general if you EQ this IEMs you can get a pretty good sound which you wouldn't expect from a little IEM like this.
I'm using Sancai tips, which I consider a very good tips in terms of ergonomics and sound. And I'm using IEMs in his natural position, not upside down.

If anyone want to try, I left in here my EQ, which is very alike which I have in my Zero:Reds.

Preamp: -2.1 dB
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 130 Hz Gain -4.5 dB Q 0.400
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 230 Hz Gain -1.0 dB Q 3.700
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 410 Hz Gain 1.0 dB Q 4.300
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 1100 Hz Gain 1.6 dB Q 1.000
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 3300 Hz Gain -1.2 dB Q 4.400
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 4400 Hz Gain 1.3 dB Q 3.900
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 6000 Hz Gain 2.1 dB Q 4.900
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 9600 Hz Gain -5.5 dB Q 5.000
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 14000 Hz Gain -4.3 dB Q 2.900
Filter 10: ON LSQ Fc 30 Hz Gain 2.8 dB Q 0.27

But to clarify... There are not even close to Zero:Reds in sound quality. There are good IEMs for its price, but I would spend 50-60€ in Zero Reds than 10 in these.

@amirm should do the ultimate test - and do the investment of all in all US$ 24.88 for
a) the AKG EO-IG955 Earphones: https://amzn.to/4tIJ95A
and
b) the Spinfit W1 Ear Tips: https://amzn.to/4iHRt1Q

Then he should install them UPSIDE DOWN as Sharur suggest it.

After that we will have at least

a) the exact correction curves for Harman 2019
and
b) the exact distortion measurements

Then we know if it is worth the effort.

I have also my doubts, that it’s possible to be much better than the Truthear Crinacle reds!!!

Spinfit W1 ear tips are here in Germany aviable in November 2026

Do you know by chance which size Spinfit are close to the large size that comes in the box? I find the stock ones okay, but I've got an older pair of B&O that needs new tips also.

Samsung’s S is equivalent to SS, M is equivalent to MS more than M, and L is L lol.

Checked out data in local stores and W1 is plenty and cheaper than Amazon…I would send Amirm my Reshelled 955 as a joke only with other phones for serious measurements altogether (Shipment fee to USA would be expensive for me since you know, Hong Kong)

And yea I don’t wanna hear shoving sounds in Seattle…

First of all, mostly AKG selled in amazon are replicas. I bought myself another few days ago, and comparing with the originals are very well done, but microphone hole are smaller and bass sound worst.
I don't buy any of these. I only use it if I would know that have been delivery with a phone.

Testing out your tuning, the bass dives deeper and less focused on vocals. Still in stock tips and comprehending now. The vocal has more colour and presence than PEQdB one. It’s also significantly louder in anyway.

The major difference is on the bass response and not much difference on the highs…I am testing Etymotic Diffuse Field EQ now lol.

Last EQ is PK 15000Hz -6.2dB Q 0.6

Test track:
- Forget Him - Shirley Suk E Kwan (cover of Teresa Tang, Fallen Angel OST)
- Li Hsiang Lan - Shirley Suk E Kwan (Cover of Jacky Cheung, original song: Ikanaide by Tamaki Koji)
Both songs from All Time Favourites Album by Shirley Kwan.
- Ruler of My Heart - Luka (Vocal:BL8M) & Mizi (Vocal:Rubyeye) (OST from Alien Stage Round 5. Not related: Luka is the best!)
