The audio hobby is a terrible financial decision.

But I've been assuming that every speaker you posted in your beautiful speakers thread was in your possession.... :p

With the knowledge that I have now and that can be obtained easier then ever thanks to resources like this site I currently find my audio hobby as one of the best values for money, I set up a stereo system at my new girlfriends home for less than $1000 which I and audio friends of mine who have listened to it find better sounding than most systems in high end audio shows, funny or sad depending from which viewpoint someone sees it.

A pair Braun L810 (in USA also called ADS L810) 3-way with 2x8" woofers, 2" soft dome mid and 1" tweeter which was released in 1969(!!!) and some equalisation with a WiiM.

If people are making terrible financial decisions, they should re-evaluate how they make decisions.
 
I have bought and sold more audio gear than many on this forum will ever own. Made a little money on some, lost my ass on others, regretted selling more than a few. Through it all, it's been greatly rewarding, just not in money terms, It's been -- and continues to be -- a wonderful, soul - satisfying hobby. Open a business to make money, begin a hobby to content your soul.

Well, you can't make just good decisions. It's just how we work. What are the consequences of bad decisions is a different matter.

Let's look at how many bad decisions Elon made - and yet he is apparently bulletproof.

FWIW, I like the L710 a little better (the 810 and 910 are a little "heavy" sounding relative to my taste), but the whole line were - and still are - very fine loudspeakers.

I passed my L710 pair (which, astoundingly, were a town dump 'swap table' find when we lived in Massachusetts) to a friend across the river in Vermont a few years back, as he had a good use for them and they were collecting dust here. They deserve to be in use rather than sitting on a shelf.



N.B. and FWIW: I used them for a while in MA because of their cat-resistant perforated metal grilles (not shown in the photo above)! :)

The L710 are very popular here and I had three pairs (and now still own one), without EQ I also prefer them slightly but with EQ the bigger and deeper bass reserves makes the L810 more full range while I personally use the L710 with subwoofer(s), also the tweeter of L810 has more thermal reserves when things get LOUD. :D The wider baffle is also an advantage for me as it takes the directivity lower but how much this is audible is a different question. :D
And yes, its a shame to have such loudspeakers unused so you did the right thing! :cool:

I didn't say anything about good decisions. Please don't misinterpret what I meant. The thread is about terrible decisions and is what I posted about.

If you find yourself making terrible financial decisions as the thread suggests, you should re-evaluate.

No comment on Musk, he isn't me.

Oh gee - here we go again. Why do you need to be so negative? Any issues and problems that we can help with?

I don't misinterpret what you mean and I did make terrible financial decisions like most people did. I survived and standing pretty tall regardless of those bad decisions.
