@19:05 this dude named his cable the 'Grand Illusion' - it has the uncanny ability to make your money disappear from your wallet.

makes me cry. Imagine someone bought that for 12K.
People buy rolexes to look at time. People buy expensive cables to connect to speakers. Both are made of exotic materials and their functionalities can be acheived by spending less than 20 bucks.

I have no money to buy either of these so i would choose to call these snake oil.

What can a rolex do more than showing time? Show off ? Why not speakers cables be exotic in that way?

No offense but nobody buys a rolex to look at time. Every mobile phone is better for that even tho rolex is quite an accurate time keeper.

A rolex is a piece of jewellery whith inherent value composed of high demand and as said jewellery.

That cable is scam. I mean unless it is made of gold or something but it does not look like it, eh?

A Rolex is 'useful' in a sense that it can clearly tell others about your wealth and status, and to some extent it will help you connect with others who are liked minded, including potential partners.

An $10,000 cable behind your amp can do that too, but to a MUCH reduced audience.

So if you already own an enviable watch collection and your wallet is still too full of money, well why not. At that level a person is no longer concerned with good value, let alone good science for that matter.

Disclaimer - I own a collection of Swatch, Skagen, Mondaine and Casino watches. Yes, that's 4 watches!

Its jewelry, it also is a very intricate system that makes it all work. You buy a high-end watch for the craftsmanship. Rolex is a bit of a bad example, because its not really that intricate, but they are still well made watches that will last generations(!). You don't buy it as a good way to look at the time, you buy it as a gift for your kid when you pass away, and your kids kid eventually.

If you want to see some truly spectacular designs, check out this Dutch watchmaker:

Everything he does can be done with ease on a smartwatch, but where's the fun in that?

Don't forget when your phone runs out of battery power, no more time...

Rolex can keep working with just kinetic movement !

I have never noticed Rolex claiming that their watches tell time better (or tell better time) than a Casio. People buy Rolex watches to show others that they are the kind of person who buys Rolex watches. This is useful as it lets others know who to avoid.

You successfully triggered a fun reaction from this very sad video heh

I think the conclusion here is we all like nice watches more than $10,000 power cables.

You avoid Rolex buyers, please put me on the ignore button then? Because I still want to buy a Rolex Milgauss.

The reliability and precision of an ordinary mechanical watch can be affected by a magnetic field of 50 to 100 gauss. But many scientists are exposed to much higher magnetic fields during the course of their work. Rolex’s solution was the Milgauss — the first watch of its kind. Hence the name of the watch, mille being French for thousand. The Milgauss became known notably as the watch worn by scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva.

I suspect an ordinary Casio digital watch would be unaffected by such magnetic fields.

Not that I'd ever wear a Casio. Those things are ugly.
