I have a standard 5.1 system.
I was thinking about an Atmos upgrade without much wiring/visual impact and took a look at this ones, they are also available from Dali.
You just place them over your front (large tower) speakers and they do upfire to the ceiling simulating Atmos-ceiling-speakers...
Did somebody have a good experience with such a solution? Looks like a marketing story rather that real atmos effect....

Absolute marketing bs...save your money.
I have not had a home trial, but in a store did not like them at all. Even with a fairly low reflective ceiling (something I usually do not want in my listening room), the sound level from them was very low, and the image so diffuse that they were almost worthless. A jet flying overhead was only heard with the speakers turned way up, and at that point I was hearing them direct as much as the reflected sound from the ceiling, and the image was smeared badly. The jet started sort of on one side, then became a nebulous blob of sound, before becoming a muffled rumble mostly on the other side, though again the directionality was mostly from the base speakers and direct sound bleeding from the Atmos speakers. This is one time I can agree with the subjective term "night and day" comparing them to actual overhead speakers. Marketing indeed...

Absolutely! A couple years back Gene DellaSala at Audioholics made serious fun of the approach calling them "bouncyhouse" speakers and recommending not to waste your money. Since then he has completely tamed his approach, IMHO in a move to support Atmos marketing, even going as far as to discuss "Atmos" soundbars with a positive slant.. Now I don't mean to slam anyones system but a soundbar is in no way the correct way to present a proper Stereo image, let alone a 5.1 or Atmos soundstage. If we here are enthusiasts and expect to get near professional results we must at least take a semi-professional approach to speaker positioning-arrangement to get the intended presentation.
Just my 2 cents.

I'd love to try Atmos sometime, but have too much invested into my current surround system now. (Time and money.) Recently bought a second Pioneer Elite SC-LX86 at a good price as a backup.
I play a lot of upmixed 2 channel music so like it's asynchronous USB input. Can't justify the hassle and expense of an upgrade currently.

7.1.4 here. Running SVS Prime Towers/Center with an Emotiva XPA-3 amp and 8 Prime Bookshelf (4 surrounds, 4 ceiling-mounted) powered by a Denon 4500, with dual PB2000 Pro subs.
