My original Issue was resolved, the Waxwing need to have it's output set to the digital outusing the output option on the app.

However I now have a secondary issue when no record is playing I noticed this occassional clipping noise

As title suggests

I have https://hifimediy.com/product/hifime-ur23-spdif-optical-to-usb-converter/ plugged into my PC, I have the TOSLINK cable connected from that to the waxwing digital out. And in the right/left phono connections on the waxwing are connected to my technics phono outputs. The cable is a blue jeans cable.

In audacity when I monitor it just sounds like a helicoptor rotor.

Really unsure why this would not be working.

That's a drag when things don't work the way you expect they will.

Asking the dumb question first... Have you set the waxwing to output through the toslink out, rather than analog rca?

I have the app but cannot see any options to set anything at all

There should be a line (line 19) where it says:
output analog.

It's nice when it's an easy fix.

Now settle in and enjoy that little beast! I have the puffin, and it's been so much fun to play with.

Really cannot wait to play with all the settings.

I did notice a little clipping when no record is playing unsure if that goes away

That I've got no suggestions for, other than to ask if you have any toslink inputs you could connect directly to, and see if that makes any difference.

I'd probably also try 48kHz and 24kHz sample rates just to see if that changes anything. I think you have a couple of choices in the waxwing.

Beyond that, someone else may have to jump in.
