Technically possible to use the Topping P50 power supply with the new DX1 II?

So I just ordered the new Topping DX1 II, and the single USB-C audio/power port got me thinking.
On paper this looks like it could work. Using a splitter cable like this one, so that the Topping P50 power supply can power the DAC?
The P50 has two USB-A's for DC5V, so along with using a USB-A-to-C adaptor, I use a straight C-to-C cable from the P50 to the power end of the splitter, another C-to-C from the DAC to the audio end of the splitter, and the main end into the PC?
On a side note, i'm anticipating people saying it's pointless to do so anyway, but you never know if you don't ask! ;)

Yes, it's possible to supply power and data to a single USB port from separate devices.

Though I'd recommend that you make sure there's no VBUS connection between the source device and your DAC.

In other words: with no power supply plugged into the adapter cable, the DAC should not turn on.

You can make such a cable yourself for cheap, using a Delock 83176 and any old Type-A to Type-C cable.

All you'd have to do is either cover the VBUS pad on the source end with some tape, or cut the red VBUS wire between the source and DAC end:

Or you could pay ten times as much for the same result but none of the effort, with something like the iFi iDefender+.

Or you could do none of this and save your money, as an external power supply is most likely entirely pointless.

Hi folks,

as this is about Topping P-50 I'll share my experience: My Fosi Merak CDP is rated @ 5V/2A and I don't have a suitable PSU, so took a 2x USB-A plug to 1x USB-A socket splitter (see previous post), connected a USB-A Plug to USB-C Plug adapter and connected the P-50 to the Merak CDP. This works well and without heated PSU since a few hours so far.

Regards,
Winfried
