This amplifier was bought new and shipped 1700km to me.

I opened the box, checked the unit worked and sealed it up. That was a while ago.

Ask a question, get another clue.

Not personally having the breadth of your experience which apparently includes amplification gadgetry requiring U-joints, I have no idea.

It's just a fun thread. :)

Kal is on the money. The universal joint is attached to the Alps RK-27 blue velvet pot. The solid brass shaft goes through a nylon sleeve bearing and the aluminium knob is attached with two grub screws.

Clue: I bought a house around the time I purchased this amplifier, and interest rates were ~15.5%. It has been in its box never used since.

Bryston something?

No. I couldn't afford Bryston in Australia at the time, but I always wanted their gear.

It has two large transformers, each resin potted into a cast-iron housing, but it's not dual mono.

Are you sure it was 1700km?

Yes. But that was from a retailer in Melbourne. It's made in Japan.

It's been sitting in its box for 29 years.

Copper plated everything and hexagonal anti vibration panels were where it was at for this company.

Even the bottom is copper plated, both sides

New Topping, new SMSL ..... new Sabaj?

No. When this was bought, all China made was fireworks, cheap chopsticks and noodles.

The company who made it, sold their audio division to Onkyo in September 2014.

Pioneer... The only model number I remember off-hand is the 9100.

And I can see now why the small modern stuff holds no sway over you.

Brand is correct Don! Model is not. :(

The integrated amplifier in this thread is from the late 1980s and is not the top of the line. There is one above it, which I also have here.

The SA-9100 however is from 1973/4 and looks like this:

PS. Don. The SA-9100 is the amplifier my Dad never bought. He still has the original brochure. It was ~AU$475 IIRC in 1972/3/4 and he was a young man with a young family. He bought a Marantz 1060 instead. I've promised I'll find him an original SA-9100 (multivoltage) to restore. They are currently getting silly money and most are in the US with 120V fixed TxFormers. We need 240V.

VERY pretty. My little Bryston amp uses a long control shaft like that, but no CV joint:)
Thanks for sharing!
